I have been slacking off on my GED classe for the last 2-4 months now. I cant get interested enough in it to finish. The teacher there says im close to finishing it to take the GED test, but I think other wise. Can anyone help me in any way. Any web sites I can go to and take pre tests or practice tests or any that can help me. I need this GED so I can get a job, With out it i cant get one. They are now wanting those with high deploma or GED. Any help is needed. I have until august to get this.

Have you asked your teacher if she knows of any extra help that you could obtain? You need to quit stalling - you really need this to move forward in life and to help you become an independent person. Sure many people have "survived" with less education but it's a different time today.

Break down, tell yourself over and over that you HAVE to do this and just do it. Think of it this way, if you do it today - you're done. It's over and you have it. Then you can move forward.

I did the same thing, stall that is, with college. I'm now 27 years old and going back to finish my college degree. I can honestly tell you this, with each day that you do not do it, it becomes harder to do. I am doing it with a husband and family to care for now. If I knew then what I know now, I would have done this years ago!

Good luck - now get off the computer and go hit the books!

Welcome to the real world. There are a lot of things in life that I would rather not do, but I still buckle down and do them. Life isn't always fun, and it isn't always interesting, but in order to get to the fun and interesting stuff you have to have the will power to do what you need to do. Most things in life that are worth having have to be earned, without shortcuts, with plain hard work.

Go talk with your teacher, see if you can get help with the areas you aren't comfortable with, and just plain work at it. That's about the only advice I can give you.

I'd also advise you to buckle down and attend the classes. Perhaps even consider going back to high school. In the U.S. you are fortunate enough to be given a free public education, and it is one gift that you should never turn your back on. At 17, this should be your focus. You have all the time in the world to be an adult.

Ashley, Forgive me for putting on my nurse/therapist cap on again but you did ask for advice..LOL so here it goes. It is hard to buckle down and do the work we have to do in life if we are down on ourselves and feeling depressed. You have been very open about your problems here and my suggestion to you is to seek counseling. There are many low cost and even free clinics/therapists available, but you have to do some work to find them. Start by calling you local NAMI chapter. They are all over the country, probably an 800 number away. NAMI stands for National Association for Mental Illness . Look at Nami.org for your local chapter. Counseling will help your self-esteem and help you find out why you are putting your GED test on hold and to why you let yourself be treated so badly. I personally believe everyone needs at least 6 months of counseling, as we all have habits we dont know how to break and most of us, women especially can use some help with self-esteem issues. Counseling has been a godsend to me and literally a life saver.

I apoligize if I have been too blunt here, but I enjoy your posts and think you are a very tender-hearted person. I think getting your GED is very comendable act on your part..takes a lot of guts to start and to finish. Get your GED not only to get a job, but think of it as a gift to yourself...you deserve it!

I didn't know you needed classes for a GED? I got mine last summer along with my late hs diploma (slacker alert! but only a couple of months late) and the test itself was really easy. There weren't any required prereqs to taking it, so if it's the same over there maybe you should just give it a shot. You can always try again if you don't make it. Your young right now, and you should take advantage of it

Do you plan on going to a college?

I also agree, although it might be discouraging to not pass your GED test, if you do pass it then it will be done and over with. I dropped out of HS multiple times and the last time I was 'out' I signed up for my GED. Since it takes some time around here to get the test, by the time my test came around I had already gotten back into school and finished off my senior year (finally!). I ended up getting my "real" diploma and a GED as well, I guess it never hurts to have an extra diploma sitting around.

I did not take any classes or prepare in the least for the test, I just did the best I could and it was good enough to pass with fairly high marks. Of course, I have always been a slight bookworm even if I did poorly in some classes, so you might not have as easy time of it as I did.

If you feel you need classes to prepare, then by all means make an effort and get yourself back into them, but they generally are not required just to take the test. The worst that can happen is you dont pass and go back to prepare more before the next attempt for whatever fee it costs to retest.

Best of luck to you!

You dont really. The classes are there to help you learn what you need before taking the test. I have a mental problem. I cant focus on that. Well I have issues to work on that, i suppose. I want to go to collage, but really not that smart.

I want to become a massage therapist(awsome at that, but my wrist started to hurt) and I also would love to work in a shelter for animals or a vet office. I cant remember the tricks to doing math or english. I have a fond for science if I could get the grade up. DOnt know. I want ot do something in life but I dont have what it takes.

Im good at lecturing people(I catch my self lecturing my nieghbor about her dogs, lol im so bad at that. I tell people what I know about animals) I even annoy myself. Id love to be a photographer too. # career choices and no talent, wowo.

Im good at that too, putting my self down.
The only thing ive done so great is give a home to 6 beautful cats and 4 spoiled dog that were close to death and had no home. A kind heart, a steady mind that cant be stressed(hehehe TRUE).

You don't have to be super smart to go to college and if you want to go - GO!!! I used to feel as though I wasn't good enough for college and I put myself down. I'm going to share my story with you in hopes that you will realize that you have control over what cards are delt to you in life.
I NEVER was a good student, I hated school, it seemed as though the more I studied the worse grades I got.
I made it through high school with a "C" average. After high school, I got engaged and all that I ever wanted was to be a wife and a mother. What did I need an education for if that's all I wanted out of life right? WRONG! My fiance died 2 months before we were to be married. I went into a deep depression and and turned to drinking. When I finally came out of my "coma" amost a year later, I had nothing to show for that year. It was a waste of my life. I decided to give college a try, I failed.
I went right back and I failed again. Guess what? I went back and failed AGAIN! I'm telling you this because I know that the reason that I failed was because I wasn't not metally ready for college and I didn't want it bad enough.
It's now 9 years later and I am happily married, and have a wonderful 4 year old son. I have returned to college once again and I am making the grades. BECAUSE I want it and am willing to work for it. School is still not easy for me, I'm not the best student but I go to every class and give it my best. Just to let you know how hard it is for me now my cum GPA when I returned was a 0.93!! Super low "F" If I don't make at least a 2.0 every semester until that 0.93 comes up to a 2.0 I will get suspened. I'm not feeling sorry for myself, I did this to myself. So far I have made a 3.3, 3.0 and a 2.5. This has only brought my CUM GPA up to a 1.45. All that hard work and it's only moved that much. OH well, you know what? I did it to myself and now I'm goin to fix it!

My attitude now is that as long as I make a "C" or better, I'm happy as long as I know that I gave it my all. You should give it your all, quit feeling sorry for yourself and decide what you want in life. It's not going to happen until YOU make it happen. And BTW, an education is the ONLY key to independence and freedom!

Well thats a kind of sabotaging attitude and you need to change that first
You don't need to be "smart" to go to college, you just need to develop good studying habits. I've helped a couple of fellow students that were having a really bad time with math, and eveyone one of them had the potential to excel in the subject. It just took different studying methods for each person.
Well anyway, good luck with it in the long run!

Peace,
Brandon

Sweetheart, your biggest tool to passing the GED test is YOU! You can't let anything distract you from getting this done! The one thing that has always kept me going was finding something that encouraged me. I hated school with a passion! I always slacked off, rarely ever did my homework unless it was easy (God forbid I would ever had to exert myself and learn something!
), skipped the classes I hated and did the worst in (stupidest thing a person could do). UNTIL I finally realized that I'm not going to get anywhere in life without my HS diploma. My senior year was coming to an end and my chance of graduating was low, unless I got my act together. I stopped skipping classes, put up with the teachers I hated, did my homework every day, did extra credit work to make up for what I missed and stayed after school and got the extra help that I needed. I brought up all of my grades and managed to pass most of my classes with a "B" average.

Think about all the things you can do once you get your GED. You can get a job, you can go to college and you can have the satisfaction within yourself that you finally accomplished something! Once I start doing well in something, I want to continue doing well because it makes me feel so much better about myself!

I know others have said this already, but hun, you need to buckle down and get the ball rolling here! I know you can do it! If you ever need help, encouragement or just want to talk I'm here. Here are a couple of links that may help:

Well...
at 17 i was an idiot
not making a difference as im 18 now... haha
BUT! i threw away one year of school... and it was untill the end of the year that i realised that i was a stupid girl and that i should have put my head together instead of caring of other crap!
Now i have talked to my teachers over and over again.
They werent so sure for me to redo my year. But i pleaded and reinrolled.
I am determined to finish this year with success as i dont have any stress from home "only financially for now" so i have all the time of the world to do my work.
(reason why i pleaded is because i might have to start working at the consulate this year as it is a hand down job from your own parents and they didnt think that i would be able to achieve it if i have to work)

IM actually very lucky as i do a correspondence school. Its in Australia.... This will be my third year of doing this school just this year is a repeat for last year..
THEN NEXT YEAR I WILL FINISH AND I WILL BE ABLE TO GO TO UNI!!!!!
welll. Thats if i have a job other wise.
I also plan to learn german fully! *is slowly getting there*

As i speak 3 languages already (English, Italian and signlanguage.) i have had already had a few job offers just that i wasnt old enough back then and that i hadnt finished school.

All i can say to you is that
IF YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE!! you have to be positive.
you need a few hours a day to your self to clear your mind, to let all those wonders of numbers and words flow into your mind and out onto a notebook

Good luck and i hope it goes well
