A typical afternoon here in the Pacific Northwest the fog rolls in....This is a photo at high summer of Neah Bay, where we just were, believe it or not. Welcome to the Washington Coast!
As we leave the Straits of Vancouver and the borderline between Fran and me and our whaling expedition, we'll see the northernmost Cape in the United States, and one of the most beautiful when the fog breaks:

Ruby Beach, my favorite on the coast. This is the Pacific Ocean.
Tonight we're on our way to Port Townsend.....to stay in a haunted house! YES! Bail out now if you can't take it, but it's beautiful!
Those beach and coast shots -- can't get enough. I don't know about you, but I tear up and get shivery every time -- and it's not like it's a novelty anymore. Port Townsend. Been there only once, when we took the Black Ball across from Victoria after Thanksgiving (October for us) dinner one year (hmmm...gotta be ten years at least, now that I think about it), and spent a few days driving around the Olympic Peninsula. Awesome -- just awesome.

ok girls! We'll need a LOT of beer and alcohol to get through the night over here! LOTS. Port Townsend was an old victorian seaport that ran the fur and lumber ships between Alaska and Puget Sound from in the late 1800's. The movie, "An Officer and a Gentleman" was filmed here (Richard Gere) as it's also a big naval base.
