the great barrier reef takes up a lot of the north/east secion of coast line of australia and the whitsundays is like the 'heart' of the area and is made up of about 100 islands or something...

whitehaven beach - this is a stunning beach!!! pure white sand!!!
we have actually hired a yacht and toured the whitsundays over 7 days (seeing as Kerrie & her DH skipper yachts we are lucky to get it cheap and they came with us of course)

Daniele, how many of the islands are actually inhabited? And what is the rough population of this area? Do people live here year round and is tourism huge, I suppose it is, but what does everyone do for a living if not in the hotel and snorkle business? Why was Queensland never really that developed compared to NSW?
