I'm not reading in detail at this point, but one thing I was surprised to learn is that a platypus is only about half the size of a housecat! Great zot! I don't know why, but I always had the impression they were something like penguin size --
Learn something new every day, they say!

Browsing through all the animals, I came to the Kookaburra, of which I haven't had a thought in ages, but it brought back to mind a song --a round, actually -- from my Girl Guide days (you don't want to know how long ago that was!!)...

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Merry, merry king of the bush is he
Laugh, kookaburra
Laugh, kookaburra
Gay your life must be, ha, ha, ha...

...and now that's going to be running through my head for a good while, I think

(missed your Kookaburra post, Danielle -- just saw it!)

Indeed, they DON'T want to be chasing...

"Emus do not have the option of flying away if under attack from predators. If attacked from above by other birds such as the wedge-tailed eagle, emus will run in a zigzag pattern. However, at close quarters their main defence is a swift kick or two with their powerful legs." YIKES!!

What a face!! Gotta love 'im!
