My darling Pekoe kitten seems to have an exceptional nose. She is a really big sniffer. She will sniff your shoes, or any smell for a really long time. I have heard of scent dogs, but have never heard of scent cats. Does anyone else have a cat so obsessed with sniffing?

She went crazy sniffing my eye the night before i got pink eye and then she pawed at the right medicine for my eye. that was probably a coincidence though.

We have an exceptional sniffer here. My Marcellus sniffs everything and for a really long time. Whereas my other two cats take a quick sniff, Marcellus is quite obsessed about it. I just think it's quite funny to watch. If he doesn't like the smell he trys to cover it up pawing quite frantically. He particularly hates feta cheese (if someone has left their plate) and he will sniff, cover, sniff, cover and because there is nothing to cover it it with it ends up to be quite a thing...eventually he gives up and walks away. It's quite funny, poor guy. He's loud about it too, you can hear him sniffing and nothing seems to get past him. Sometimes he wakes me up by his sniffing sound...he likes ears.

I am not sure about the medicine part, but it isn't that unusual for animals to sense or be aware of someone's illness before they are. In fact, there are some dogs that have been tested for their ability to 'sniff' out cancer before there are any clinical symptoms or other evidence. Animals are very sensitive to the balance of 'energies' in our environment and may well be able to know when something is out of synch, such as an incubating illness.

I know mine always give me special care and nurturing when I am ill.

My eldest cat (16!) sniff's everthing/everyone that comes into the house, usually licks everything too. She's been doing this ever since she went completely deaf a few years back.

Princess also has to sniff everyone or everything that comes in the house. She will spend hours just walking around sniffing different things. It's funny when she smells something she doesn't like. She's done it since she was a kitten.
