Glad you are a cat lover now!

Good thread jalapeno!
I started off preferring dogs over cats. I think it's because of all the dog shows on TV like Lassie, Benjii, etc. when I was growing up. Then I found Joji. She completely made me realize I was a cat person after all.

I was raised with dogs & cats and always loved both - until recently. My cats & dogs all considered themselves part of the same happy family; all affectionate to each other. My last dog, Tasha, a german sheperd/husky mix who crossed Rainbow Bridge a year ago, helped me raise two litters of orphan kittens, including "diaper changes". She guarded anything small and helpless and adored cats. All our dogs were well-behaved, never left the yard, never harmed the other animals including our chickens. My husband's dog is another case all together - she is the prime suspect in the disappearance of my cat "Ronnie" and last year killed 2 flocks of my chickens and attacked my other cat, "Miss Tobie". My husband insists that it couldn't be his dog, although a friend and I came home and the dog had my grandson's pet hen in her mouth and bite marks on the cat match her mouth. Meanwhile, I adopted another dog named "Sugar" who is a Golden Retreiver/Rottweler mix and SHE attacked another one of my cats! The cat spent 4 days in hospital & I have spent most of the year revising the dog pen, because the dogs are so good at escaping. It's worked so far (fortunately for the dogs, because they are on capital parole); just to be safe, the cats can only be outside when I'm with them. So, I found out the hard way that unlike horses and cats, it really depends on the breed of the dog to know if I love them.

I was raised in a household where only dogs were talked about fondly by my dad. We always had a dog when I was growing up. When I moved into my apartment 6 years ago, I still really wanted a dog. I really wanted a pet of some type because I just love animals and wanted companionship. I started to consider getting a cat after being around other people's cats. Then, 1.5 years ago, I was presented with the opportunity to adopt a cat. It wasn't until I adopted the cat, Charlotte, that I learned about an entirely new world. I had never realized that a cat could be such a great companion. And now, Charlotte is so spoiled that I got her a kitten, Izzie, which has been almost 3 months ago!!

I always had dogs as a child growing up because my brother had such bad allergys we couldn't have a cat, and then just kept on with dogs until moving to the country, then I had dogs and cats and now I just have a cat.

We still have 2 dogs, but I used to love dogs so much and (not really) hated cats, but didn't care much about them- but that all changed last July '04 when I cared for Pikachu (RB), and now, I can't live without 'em!
WOW! You just took the words right outa my mouth! As a child I was friends with every dog in the neighborhood! I could not have one as my brother had Asthma. Then as a preteen I got my first dog - A Small SPoo and he was my best friend. i had mares too and he would heel off leash by the left shoulder of my mare on the left (I would ride her Mom and pony her and her sister on each side of her Mom). After he died I no longer wanted a any more dogs. Later I got engaged and my mares and I moved with my fiance.

THERE a dear Calico came to me. She was scared of all other people except me and my fiance. She got fatter and fatter and one day she gave birth to 4 kittens. Two look a like mackerel striped tabbies (one long hair and one short hair) and a calico and an orange Tabby boy. My now ex dumped the boys when I was at work and my little calico was killed in the street and my fiance and I split. I took the last kitten home with me and a few years later snuck the Mom, Minnie home.

I moved back with my Mom and shortly after she was given a GIANT SPoo. I threw a fit due to worry over my Corkie and suddenly, without knowing when, BOTH Corkie and I fell in love with Schatzi and when I brought Minnie home he was always there to protect her from Corkie who wanted her GONE!

He is gone now and I will NEVER have another but he loved cats as much as I did, and 3 of my cats loved him.

From the time Corkie came into my life I was a goner for cats! I still have her and now 3 rescues! They are my babies and the loves of my life!

Is Schiatzi gone now? He IS a giant poodle.
Your cats look lovely! I hope you can fix the other pic of Uncle Schiatzi. Sorry but I'm glad you and your ex-fiance broke up- he's heartless for dumping the two kittens!

Yes, my cats too are the loves of my life. I have a bf, but my cats already took up much of the space in my
! Don't tell him I told you this!

I'm an ANIMAL lover - full stop. I've always had a dog and cat EVERY single day of my life. I couldn't live with out either, we have ten cats and four dogs!

I have to admit I was a dog lover, since I grew up with a Shih Tzu and my mom has one now, but now that I have a cat, I find dogs too needy. I've always liked cats, and kept begging my mom for one when I was a teenager, but she kept saying she didn't want one in the house. When I moved out first thing I got was a cat, then I moved back to my parents and the cat came with me
I still like dogs (smalls ones at least) but I don't see myself ever really being a dog ower.

IA. If you need me, just meow..
I was raised with both dogs and cats so I enjoy both of them equally.
My ex and I had 6 dogs( of course he never let me go anywhere so I had ample time to devote to them). When I split from him I told myself I'd never have pets again because I'd never let one be put in a situation like those dogs were,(he was an abusive man) so I had no pets for quite awhile.
When we got this house though, I didn't feel like it was a home because there were no animals in it, but Brad didn't want dogs and I agreed since neither one of us had time for one, so I thought we just never have a pet until one day I came home from work and Brad had something behind his back. Long story short, it turned out to be Twig. He was so small you could hold him with one hand and still have room in your hand. Progressively over the months we got Zen(rip my little firepoint) who passed from FIP. then we got Rocket, and I started to feed Isis and Luna and slowly intergrated them into our house and now we are a cat loving household with underlying dog loving tendancies also.( shhhh don't tell the cats).
