Hello, I'd like to know if everyone had/loved dogs before becoming a cat lover.

We still have 2 dogs, but I used to love dogs so much and (not really) hated cats, but didn't care much about them- but that all changed last July '04 when I cared for Pikachu (RB), and now, I can't live without 'em!

I have loved cats for as long as I can remember!

I've never had a dog, but do love them too (most, anyway) I prefer it if they belong to someone else and I get to walk them and play with them!!

I grew up with cats, my Dad doesn't really like dogs so I wasn't around them much. I do plan on getting a dog once I have a yard though so I like them too.

I grew up with dogs. I've always loved all animals, so my affection for dogs wasn't exclusive, but it was dogs I had experience with. Shortly after I was on my own, I decided it was time for a pet, and since my lifestyle would not allow me to either stay home with it or take it with me most places, a dog was out. I wanted a critter I could have a real relationship with, though, one who would care whether I was home or not, and tell me so, etc, so a cat was a natural. Since having cats in my life, I realize that I don't ever want to be without a cat, and even if I never have a dog again, there are lots of dogs for me to talk to and play with -- even dogs tied up outside shops are grateful for a scritch and a few words if you approach them properly. Eventually, I hope to have a dog again, but if it doesn't happen, I won't lose any sleep.

I used to have miniature poodles. When we put our poodle to sleep in 1988, I never thought I'd have another pet. I adopted my 2 kitties in 1990 and have fallen in love with cats!

Wow Frannie, I couldn't have said that better for myself if I tried. I had two dogs for 17 years and had to put them both down in 2000. Hardest thing I ever did and I will love them always.....

RIP my angels.........

I love them both...for their similarities and differences. I shared a twin bed with a collie for 12 years as a child, she was my nearest and dearest and helped me through all the angst of childhood and then some. Now I share a queen-sized bed with Franz, who sleeps curled up next to my chest and Maddie who is a foot of the bed girl..I think Franz TOLD her where to sleep! All my dogs and cats have heard all my secrets, joys and woes...and never yapped them to anyone! LOL! I will have quite a crowd at The Rainbow Bridge!

I never really cared much for dogs - the idea of waking up in the middle of the night to take them outside for a walk didn't appeal to me, I don't like them drooling all over me and they're kinda needy.

That being said, I wish Baylee was a bit needier. And my boyfriend likes dogs and wants to get a pug so I guess I better get used to them! I like them okay, I just don't LOVE them, ya know?

My family always had both, but the dogs outnumbered the cats by about 5 to 1. Because of our jobs, we've had just cats for the past decade, but once we retire, we'll probably be back to having both. I think I'm probably more of a "dog person" than a "cat person", though, because an awful lot of people have told me that our cats acted like dogs. On the other hand, cats seem to like me, since strange cats will come right up to me to be petted and talked to, and every stray in the neighborhood seems to end up at our door. I've been active in animal rescue for the past two decades, and most of that has involved cats, but that's more a matter of there being far more abandoned or feral cats around here than dogs. Dogs are registered here, but cats aren't, and people seem to think that it's "not as bad" to abandon a cat, because they can "take care of themselves"!

I've been a cat lover always. Sense I was three years old, a talked about cats, painted little sculptures of them, and just had a pure passion for them. I don't know what it is about cats, but I have always loved them.

I always had 2-3 dogs growing up. I "found" my first stray/feral cat hiding in my backyard when I was about 20. I'm suprized she stayed around because my dogs HATED cats. I pretty much tamed her. Then one day one of our neighbors injured her so bad we had to put her to sleep. About 6 months later I had to go to the pet store to get some dog food and fell in love with Princess (my first cat). She was up for adoption from a shelter. Princess took over the house and trained the dogs she was THE BOSS. It was hilarious watching this 1lb ball of fur terrorize a 20lb dog (they were never left alone together). Princess grew up around dogs so she acts more like a dog than a cat. She even barks!!! Then Patsy came along. Again I had no intention of getting another cat but I had to have her.

I have since had to have all my dogs put to sleep for various health reasons and would love to get another one someday. I'm living with my grandparent's and they really don't want anymore pets. I came with my 2 cats and have been adopted by 1 stray and 2 ferals (in the last week another has shown up that no one knows about). I working on keeping him if the other cats allow him to stay.

I'm just an animal lover. At least I like most animals. I don't really like reptiles or mice/rats. I always seem to attract every animal with a hard luck story.

Stacey,
Princess, Patsy, George, Sweetie, and Blackie (and soon to be one more stray/feral)

I had a wonderful dog, a border collie mix, growing up, who I adored (I had cats first, though, so it wasn't *before* I started loving cats). I still really like dogs, though I'm not sure I'd want one, at least at this stage in my life - I think I'm more of a cat person all around, dogs, while great, are a bit more responsibility than I want, and generally higher energy/more rambunctious than cats, and louder, too - the dog where I work starts howling EVERY time someone even walks past outside (which is a lot, because they live in a very urban area), and it drives me freakin' crazy - I would go nuts if I lived with a dog like that all the time - which doesn't mesh really well with my lifestyle. Basically, I like dogs, but more from afar.

What beautiful dogs!

I have always loved both cats and dogs. When I was growing up my family had two male kittens, unfortunately, they were both indoor/outdoor cats who never lived to see their first birthdays. Later my family adopted a small puppy and named him Scamp. Scamp was with us for fourteen years. When he suffered a massive stroke and was pts on the vet's recommendation, my entire family was devestated. (I'm not sure if that last word is spelled right.)
