I saw it. I thought it was rather cruel of them (producers) to leave those other two familys "hanging" without a dog and making them all watch as the "winning" family gets to walk away with what you KNOW they (the familys) all thought they were getting, that sweet loveable dog they spent a day with. Kids especially just dont "get" it when their parents tell them not to get their hopes up or not to expect the dog to stay with them.. one of those kids looked so crushed I thought he was going to start crying.

At the very least the show could have hooked up the two loosing familys with free adoption from the local shelter so they could go pick out a pet of their choice. Instead they just said something like "I am sure those familys will end up with a good pet from the shelter ..or something." with what I perceived as an attitude that lacked any sympthey or compassion for what those dogless families just went through just to make some tv company a few bucks. But then again, isnt that one of the problems (or perks) to all reality based shows? You get to see what people are really feeling wether its joy or pain and noone really cares as long as you tune in for the commercials.

Ditto here!

I picked the winning family at introduction time (first 5 minutes of the show), then had it confirmed when I realized the only family with previous experience with a dog was the winning family. Really now, a beagle's best home is one with experience. They could have saved putting the other 2 families thru their anquish by selecting a breed that had a chance with them.

I do volunteer at a shelter and hear some of the discussions on how they chose to adopt out pets, but not enough to make me an expert. This match was just too obvious even to me.

Last thought: I'd like to see all the money that is being directed at this show be used to adopt out a bunch of homeless animals to good families. Not just save a single dog each week. Good concept, poor execution.

For those who haven't seen it or don't have cable, here's the premise:

Each week they go into a shelter and pull out a highly adoptable dog. 3 families that have applied for dogs and have been prescreened and preapproved for an adoption gets to spend 1 day (and night) with the dog. They give the family a couple of tasks to do with the dog that tests their ability to handle the dog (like what do they do to make the dog stay on one side of a doorway to teach boundaries). They also watch the interaction to see how the dog responds to them and more importantly, how the family responds to the dog. A panel of judges watches all the video taken of the families and picks one of them to adopt the dog permanently. The other 2 families are left to go back and find one on their own if they elect to.

It is a contest between families and with any contests, there are winners and losers. You know the dog wins all along, but 2 of the families simply lose. And they pick families with kids so they won't always take the losing well. The positive side of adopting out a homeless dog is offset by the reactions of the "losers".

I haven't seen it but I remember thinking the same thoughts (that it was cruel to leave the "losers" hanging, especially since those families included kids) when I saw the commercials for the show.

I totally agree, but then again there are SO many companies and people in general that "waste" perfectly good money for selfish ends or in a poor fashion instead of using it to help others with the maximum benifit.

I suppose those who "like" the show would argue that there are education values in such a thing and that alone justifies all that they do not do with that money or the torment of the loosers, but frankly I think it just comes down to the bottom line and the mighty dollar being the real motivation behind that and most TV shows. Then again, thats the nature of the beast.

Everyone write to Animal Planet and tell them 1 dog a week isnt enough, we want to see more and also a show for cat adoptions! heh
