I'M BACK!!! I have been gone on vacation for almost two weeks and i had sara boarded for that time, i didnt want to put the responsibility of coming over and feeding her 3 times a day on anyone, but i have brought her home and she is completley different... aside from gaining a few pounds... she wont let me pick her up, she twist and turns till i put her down(she used to love for me to carry her from place to place). She is walking around meowing, and she wont have anything to do with her favorite treats... she hasnt ate or drank anything yet or used the litter box(but we have only been home for a little while)....
what is wrong with her, will she warm back up to me, is she mad at me???
or is she gunna be like this from now on...
any advice is more than welcome, i am not sure what to do

Hi Meagan,

I can't say any of my cats have reacted this way after I have been away but I sure hope Sara warms up to you soon.

Welcome back, btw!

Saras in a huff!.

Rosie was the same when i put her in a cattery for 2 weeks. She was well looked after and fussed over where she was but as soon as she came home she didn't want to know me

Marge is right as well on being confused because Rosie wandered around the house sniffing and it took her a good week to get back to her normal self but i got my Rosie back in the end

Just give her lots of love and fuss and she'll soon get back to her old routine with you.

Cats are creatures of habit and get stressed easily when their environment is disrupted. I am sure that boarding was a stressful experience, and it may take time for your cat to feel comfortable again at home.

Your cat is in a bit of a shock. She has been taken from a home that she loves, put in a place that she didn't know, and you have no idea what she had to go through while you were gone. Even when the facility is first-rate she is assaulted by strange smells, and other stressed animals, and your scent that normally comforts her is gone.

You need to give her a dark room to rest in, with quiet, and food and water and not pick her up, or cuddle her and just let her decompress. You need to be sure that she does eat, so try anything you can think of can to get her to do so- tuna, cream cheese, shredded cheese or baked fish, anything. Call the person who cared for your cat find out if the cat ate, and when the last time was- If the cat isn't eating by tomorrow get to the vet-
