haha, I spent the whole first day I had her trying to figure out a name, my boyfriend and his two sisters were over and we were just playing with her throwing around names but I just didn't like ANY of them, I started just calling her 'kitty' and then finally late that night I was like 'no way am I just going to get into the habit of calling her kitty' so we tried thinking of some more names, and then gave up again and were going to leave it for the next day. When my boyfriend just said 'what about Leeloo' he was looking at the cover box to the fifth element that we had watched recently so it was laying out on top of the dvd player, and it just seemed to fit with her ^_^

We had several names on his first arrival.
I was originally going to get a little girl but as i heard that he was a boy i just didnt care anymore and went to get him.
(there werent any kittens to chose from) Only big cats.
I decided to get a kitten because from choosing big cats they dont settle in so easily like a kitten does so thats how it is!

He is named Teufel (in english Devil) well i think we should have named him psycho!! i have never seen a cat like this in my whole life. He goes crazy and does the bunny dance. He can jump really high and he will attack my head every night. infact today i have a big scratch on my face and it looks like someone slashed me with a knife!!!!! He also bites my arm really hard and since he is older the bite marks are starting to bleed. I mean i wouldnt even be doing anything and he just attacks me!

HE is acting very evil but when he snaps out and purrs and becomes a loving kitty then aww

He started to respond to "ghetto gatto"
but now we just call him gatto!
Gatto means Cat in italian but it suits him.
He is still named Teufel at the vets, they say we shouldnt call him that but they havent seen his bad side

Patches came with the name Patches, it was the name on the cage at the shelter when we got her, and it fit, so it stuck.

Carmel is carmel because at the time I loved caramel sundaes and Carmel is a calico that has some spots that look like caramel!

Grayson is gray, and we couldn't keep calling him "gray kitty"

Bender is Bender partly due to the Matt Groenig cartoon and I wanted to call him Slopey, but Peter was horrified and wouldn't let me. Bender had flat-chested kitten syndrome when he was a kitten and has since grown out of it.

Mr. Tinkles is big and fluffy and white (with grey spots) so peter named him after Mr. Tinkles in the movie cats & dogs, since Tink showed up on our doorstep a few days after we had seen the movie.

Marge grumbles like Marge on the Simpsons.

Miss Cleo is absolute royalty, and Cleo'cat'ra fits her so well.

Thanks! Your babies are so adorable! Pixel and Cupcake could be sisters, they look so much alike. I love the idea of giving them all computer-related names. I'm sure my Hubbs wishes he'd thought of that (he's a computer guy).

Vader got his name because he is black, and we love Star Wars (Darth Vader).

Dory got her name because we love Finding Nemo, and it was such a cute name and she's such a cute kitten. Her full name is actually Princess Dory, as the first name we picked was Princess, but we just call her Dory.

Coco - She was nameless for quite a while until one night we were all sitting in the living room and dad just shouted out, "Coco! She looks like cocoa powder!" So thus, Coco.

Pumpkin - She's a calico kitty and has all the colors of fall in her. I was going to name her autumn, but for some reason liked Pumpkin better. Even though I now like Autumn better, but I don't want to confuse my cat after 3 years.

Franz after composer/pianist Franz Liszt. Franz is a Maine Coon Tuxedo...so he reminded me of a grand piano!

Madeline (Maddie) After the little French schoolgirl of the Madeline books. With hindsight I really can see my little girl leading the long line of school girls on another great adventure!

Well, Munchkin got here name because my then 3 year old Godson thought that was the "purr-fect" name for her. How can you say no to a cute 3 year old? Jasmine, was my Mom's cat, and Mom thought that is sounded very elegant and ladylike. Jasmine, is neither of those, especially at dinner time. KC, well she got the short end of the stick I am afraid. I just was having a complete mental block with her name and so I kept calling her "kitty-cat". So, I just shortened it down to KC. They all of course, have middle names too. Munchkin Anne, Jasmine Marie, and KC Nicole. No rhyme or reason for the middle names, just what I thought sounded good. Just like kids though, their middle names are only used if they are being rotten.

We wen't through many names trying to come up with one's for these ones!

Heidy Shannon: My best friend came up with this and as soon as I heard it I knew it suited her. We don't always call her Heidy though, usually she is Dee Dee or Heid. We also gave her a middle name of Shannon which I came up with, being big wrestling fans, lol.

Monty Jeff: I am pretty sure I came up with this name, being a ginger cat, well, it just seemed the right name for him. My best friend wanted to call him Showstoppa but I refused because I didnt think it was the right name for a cat. And then we gave him the middle name Jeff, I can't remember who came up with this one, but it for the same reason we gave Heidy her middle name.

Ozkar Anthony: Well, this one if for the same reason we gave the other two their middle names but this one I wanted to spell it differently, so it is pronounced Oskar but with a "z". Anthony is after one of my favourite musicians but I also LOVE that name.

Al Snow: well, he was adopted from our neighbours and because he is gray and the children named him Snowbell, from Stuart Little. I hated this mainly because he is a boy and it just didnt suit him. Even though he is cute he is a very stocky and big cat. So then we just called him Snow, from there my best friend started calling him Al (another wrestling name) so we just call him Al and have his middle name Al.

So that's it

The moment Sierra and I met and she became my heart and my life, that was instantly her name, never had a moment's doubt or wondering. I had known for some time that my first daughter's name would be Sierra, and so it became.

When we first got Raffles he was the most terrible thief. He was a rescue cat who had been a stray and it took him some time to learn that he didn't have to scavenge and steal anymore because his next meal would be provided for him. Nothing was safe, he would open cupboards to get at food and chew through plastic bags and cardboard boxes. He was named Raffles after the Victorian gentleman burglar in the novel by E W Hornung. Of course, now he has settled in and realises that he will be fed he never steals and isn't actually terribly interested in food. But we like the name anyway.

Rosso and Bruno were named because they came as a pair or litter mates - one red Burmese, one Brown. I'm told that Rosso is red and Bruno is brown in Italian.

Daisy already had her name when she came from the shelter, and it suits her very well so we kept it. Milly's original name was Malandra; I wasn't happy with this, I thought it was too long, and didn't really suit her. We thought of lots of alternatives, but settled on Milly because it wasn't unlike the sound of her original name, so we thought it would be less confusing for her. She must like it, as she will come when called!

Sammy-a-go-go: I waited until a name came to me that seemed to fit him....it took weeks. We started out calling him Monkey because he likes to "climb" doorframes (uses his extra digits to grab on and slide down), but I didn't want that to be his name forever, because it wouldn't suit him once he gets old and calms down. When I thought of Sammy, I realized it really fit his personality and could be shortened to Sam if he ever seems too old for Sammy. The "a-go-go" is because he was a ridiculously hyper kitten, constantly running around and jumping up walls and doorframes.

Lola: She needed a girly name, because she's quite princess-y, but we also wanted something that fit with the mischevious part of her personality. Lola seemed perfect, plus it gives me an excuse to sing Barry Manilow lol. Lola is sometimes called Lola Bean, because she's so small for her age.

I could write an epic novel about naming my cats, but Ill give the short version. In my house are 4 cats: Rufus and BigHead who technically arent "mine", and Niles and ManyToes who will always be with me....
Rufus was my cat, before I had moved away to University. Rufus is a girl, but that doesnt matter - she is Rufus, from Bill and Ted...very sage, and quite neurotic now in midage. BigHead - he is a stray I finally forced the rest of my family to adopt. He is BIG and SOLID - last check weighed 22lbs. HUGE head. Thus BigHead. My sister calls him Tom, but what does she know? Niles remained nameless for over a month as I waited to learn his name. Sure enough, one day I realized it was supposed to be Niles. ManyToes....hes my little freak baby with 24 toes (including a double claw, and a couple superclaws). he gets referred to a lot as "eMpTy". He might get a better sounding official name in the future, but will always be manytoes to me!!!Interestingly, ManyToes is a brother to Leli's Lola (who would have been polydactyl as well if eMpTy hadnt taken her extras too!)

Under the cats, mostly.
Hrmn... I named Greebo after a Terry Pratchett character. The one-eyed fierce motheaten, will-attempt-to-fight-or-rape-anything-up-to-and-including-a-four-horse-logging-wagon fuzzball. It was kinda ironic that Greebo was the sweetest, softedst thing on the planet.

Sprocket... well he was an oddball that just dind't seem to fit. A bit like a thingie, or a jigger, or a whatchamacallit. Sprocket.

I had picked out a few names to have a vote on with the family but I was very partial to Bijou since his eyes were truly like jewels. Our daughter liked that name and it didn't take the 2 of us long to convince my husband. Now he says the name really suits our boy.

Grissom and Jeter are obviously baseball players. Roberts choice. I was sneaky with Jeter though. I knew Rob was kinda against me bringing him in, as he fears I will bring home every stray cat I see and wanted to nip the habit in the bud. So, to kind of make him more okay with Jeets, I called him and was like... "So, I brought home a kitten, and his name is Jeter. Are you mad at me still?" He has ended up loving Jeter, so it all worked out.

Fellini was initially called Pedro, in keeping with the baseball theme, but I was kind of tired of that, so we were tossing around names (Adso, Hidecki, Donas, Fergus). We were watching 8 1/2, one of the best films ever by Frederico Fellini, when I thought, Bingo! Fellini is perfect!

OMG! I thought I was the only one who did that!
Cupcake's middle name is Elizabeth. She only hears it when she's in trouble ... so she hears it a lot.

Texas soon to be moving far away :-(
I will keep this short since I have 8 cats.

Babi: My fiancee's cat so he named her.

Hampster: Her neck looked like a hamster's neck. No neck

Jasmin: She looked like royalty with her long puffy tail

Trish: Named after a WWE wrestler

Tabitha: Ran out of Ideas for her. She didnt answer to any name. I call her
my little Mexican since she looks like Eddie G. (a WWE wrestler)

Piccolo: originally called cotten before we found out she was a he. Named him
after a Dragonball Z character. Looks like him too.

Gizmo: Looks like gizmo from The Grimlins

Tigger: AKA Trigger. Trigger since it looked like someone pull the trigger on a
Paintball gun and shot her(calico ) then went to Tigger after the
winnie the pooh guy's friend.

There you go the name and reasons. Babi was really a brat when she started walking. Attacking everyone.
