okay it was just something i have to tell you now.
i found this so cruel

yesterday i wanted to go into the petstore here to have a look at the cat food and to see if the prices were any diferent.
we walked past some bunnies which looked so cute...
then we went past the mices and i said hehe wouldnt Teufel like that.

then my boyfriend went to the cashier lady and said "i want a mouse for my cat" in german.
I WAS LIKE WHATTTTTTTTTTT NOOOO!!!
and the woman kept on giving it to him although i said no!!
that really irritated me.

so we got home and he gave it to the cat. He was scared but thenhe started playing and chasing it, after two hours he bit it and it was dying.
i was crying so much because the poor little mouse looked so cute and it was so unfair.

does anyone else think my bf is cruel for doing this??
he plans to get more for him but i just cant stand it!
I am really heart broken.
sorry to vent but i just had to share especially since my cat didnt deserve a mouse from the pet store.

You are right. I think that was cruel to deliberately give an animal to be killed for sport. It would be different if the mouse had wandered in to your house and you cat had caught it.

Sounds mean to me.
Sorry, fwan. I know that was very upsetting to you.

yea well i wouldnt have minded if it was from outside. but the fact that he bought it... Teufel was very proud though. but it took me untill today to forgive him that he killed it.

I have to agree with Barbara - it was sadistic, even if many of the mice and rats in pet stores end up as snake food. Teufel was just following his instincts; it's your boyfriend I'd worry about.

i know i havent forgiven him yet!

But it wasnt fair because that woman at the store is NOT ALLOWED to sell those mices just to kill. and she went ahead with my complaint.

he says he wont do it again, he says that since the cat doesnt go outside he has to learn some skills. I suppose that is true, everyone here except for his mother said oh its okay, its normal for the cat and it doesnt matter where you get the mouse from.
But im not going shopping around that area again or to another pet store withhim again!!

I dunno, what skills does he really need to know if he's not gonna go outside? Obviously he could handle a mouse should it wander inside, ya know?

Sorry that your boyfriend did that, that's not cool, but definitely don't blame your cat, like others said it was just his instinct and he didn't know better. Your boyfriend certainly did.

Personally, I would be very concerned about the mentality of a guy like that - I think that was a pretty sadistic act and can only wonder what other sadistic acts is he capable of.

one of my friends in gradeschool would buy fish and mice and stuff for her pets... I thought it was weird. but I don't think it's necessarily sick/cruel. My hamster died of constipation, now THAT was cruel..

I have to agree that it's just probably another way of thinking on your bf's part. At least, in the light that he's promised you he won't do it again after realizing you were so upset.

All my cats have learnt hunting skills indoors on stuffed mice and other toys. I don't let them out till they are around 6 months old, and they have all been good hunters. Of my current three, Dushka is the best hunter and regularly brings things home. But I would NEVER let her practice on something live, and if she brings in something live and uninjured I try hard to get it away from her and rescue it. I can't imagine giving a cat a live toy.
