AS YOU ARE A TEACHER!!
god id so love to get your point of view................
Can you recognise which students will achieve best and others who wont?

You see my best friends mother is a teacher in australia and she didnt say anything to my face untill a year later she came to germany and said to me
" i didnt think you would achieve school"
Now i seemed to be a bit puzzled as she has never taught me and i had no idea what her problem was.
I mean i did have problems because of home stuff thats why school was just a social place for me.. but i did try hard at times.

Do you get annoyed at your students?
Do you like to give "detention" if that exists over there

DO your students give you nice comments and remarks and do you find it sweet when they do so??

thats all for now

Wow! That's a tough question.

I don't think my goals in life have ever been static -- they change as my priorities and my outlook on life changes. However, if I have some "outstanding goals" they are probably these:
1) buy a house/ condo
2) establish financial security
3) finish my Ph.D. (I left the program 4 years ago!)
4) read more classic works of fiction, poetry, essays, and philosophy
5) work more on my writing (essays and poetry)
6) have (or adopt) and raise a child or two.

Hi, Susan! Here are my answers:

1. Have you ever lied on the telephone? I suppose I have. I'm not a very good liar, though!

2. Have you ever got to a checkout and realised you didn't have enough money on you?
(I'd faint if that ever happen to me!)

Oh, yes. I've gone to the checkout and realize I'd left my wallet at home! I think I've done that a couple of times! Doh!

3. Do you like ironing? I DETEST ironing. I try to buy shirts that don't require it!

Sorry, guys. Penelope (my kitty-cat) had a few coughing episodes yesterday morning
so I was preoccupied with her health all day. Looks like we're not out of the woods with the pyothorax.

Anyway, I talked to her vet last night and she'll go in for another exam in a week or two.

1 What is your favourite feel good outfit? Probably a tank top and shorts. I love hot weather.

2 Do you have any piercings/tattoos?
My ears were pierced when I was thirteen but I didn't wear earrings for a few years and they've grown back together! I'll have to have them repierced if I want to wear earrings again. No tattoos.

3 Do you have a car? If so what is it? Yes, I do have a car. It is a dark gray 2004 Honda Civic. My brown 1992 Honda Accord (inherited from my mom) started falling apart
so I had to get a new one last year.

4 What is your favourite game to play with Molly and Penelope? I like the "cat dancer" because I can relax and do something else while I jerk it around for their enjoyment. I also like throwing sponge balls for Penelope because she squeaks with excitement just before she runs after the ball to chase it! So cute! And it's fun to watch Molly play with "Da Bird" because she is very athletic and has an extremely furry tummy so I get to see the "full glory of her fur" when she's doing her acrobatic jumps!

5 What was your favourite subject in school? Creative Writing

6 What is the subject you teach now? (or favourite if you teach more than one) Hmmm, I teach French and I also work with kids who have reading disabilities. I think I form a closer bond with the latter students and I feel like I really help them with an essential skill so "Reading" is probably my favorite subject to teach.

(Great answers! I am now looking to read 'The Book of Pi'! I have heard of it before, but I didn't know the author - Thank you!)
It's a really good book. Hope you enjoy it!

1.- Which you prefer wine or beer? wine, definitely

2.- Do you have a bicycle? can you ride? I have a mountain bike which I can ride but I haven't been bicycle riding in awhile... I mean to do more when the whether gets better.

3.- Do you like Sea food? ( I mean Lobster, Shrimp, crab, etc..?) Oh, yes. I like all of those.

4.- What is the most crazy Idea that you do it? ( I mean Jump in bungie or parachute?) Hmmm...probably traveling by myself to the St. Bernard monastery in Switzerland and staying there overnight. I know that's not very crazy or adventurous but I tend to be a pretty cautious person!

5.- Choose one Sunrise or Sunset and say why!... Sunset because I rarely see the sunrise and because sunsets always make me very sad.

Can you recognise which students will achieve best and others who wont? I think all of my students have the potential to achieve greatly in the craft, art, sport, academic area that they like most and have the motivation to pursue. Generally, that's an area where they show some talent or strength. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses and, as a teacher, I feel it's my job to find out what a student's strengths, talents, and weaknesses are, and to help him/ her realize these, too. I would never tell someone "you won't achieve in school" because I think if the conditions are right and the student's motivation level is high, that he/she can achieve more than anybody ever expected.

Do you get annoyed at your students? Oh sure. I get annoyed when they don't do their homework or when they don't "give" anything (any effort, motivation, energy, curiosity, etc.) to whatever we're doing.

Do you like to give "detention" if that exists over there? We don't have detention. If a student really acts up and insults or distracts other teachers and/or students he might get in-school suspension for a day or two but that's decided by the Deans, not by the teachers. I work at a private school designed for kids who have problems (emotional, social, learning, etc.) and there is a high teacher to student ratio (3:1) so we're not really into punishment. We're just trying to help these teenagers get on with their lives.

DO your students give you nice comments and remarks and do you find it sweet when they do so?? Yes and Yes.
My favorite was a card that a 6-year old little girl made for me (this was a different teaching job in California) at the end of the year. It said, "Thank you for teaching me how to read."

CoolCat -- wow, you come up with such interesting questions! They make me think!

1.- If can meet some personality ( I mean An Actor a President or else) Who be and why? I'd really like to meet Chris Marker; he's a French documentary filmmaker who's very old right now. He also likes cats!

2.- Have you ever ride a Horse? Yes, once on a family vacation

3.- Are still keep it your Child Toys and what it is? No, I don't have any childhood toys left. My mom threw them out or gave them all away. Well, except for my favorite stuffed animal (when I was a child). He's in storage somewhere. My mom can't throw him out because of his sentimental value.

4.- What you afraid of? Becoming a quadropalegic or getting Lou Gehrig's disease.

Have a nice begin of weekend!
You, too!!

Ok Colleen, here are my questions:

If you could change anything about the school system, what would it be?

If you could teach any age and any subject, what age and what subject would you teach?

That's it, except wanted you to know I am sending prayers for Penelope that the chest problem clears up without further trouble. Hugs

Okay, here are my last two answers as I'm passing the torch to another member in a minute...

If you could change anything about the school system, what would it be?

Wow, that's a tough one. I think it would be to reduce class sizes. I teach in a private school where there is an extremely low faculty to student ratio and I'm able to give a lot of individual attention to each student. This means I can focus on their strengths and weaknesses and what they need to do in order to learn better. When you have a class of 30 people it becomes more about classroom management than individual learning. Oh, also, I think professional development for high school teachers should be more subject area specific. The education classes are okay but it gets to be the same BS after awhile.

If you could teach any age and any subject, what age and what subject would you teach?

I like working with older high school students. I also like working with adults. It's fun working with little kids but I think I'm better with the older ones!

Thanks carolcat. That means alot to me.
