Yes, I know, we've all laughed at our kitty's expense. I bought collars awhile ago, way too big for those tiny necks. Tonight I tried again, still too big, but getting better. At first the little bells were still attached, and it was pretty funny to watch the kitties act so crazy. It wasn't long before collar number 1 came off. So I took the bells off and they are doing pretty okay. But the collars are too big.

I never saw anything smaller in any of the stores. In a few more days if this works, I will get some tags made for them. They grow up so fast.....LOL.

Be sure you take them off when you can't supervise. Collars that are too big can be a hazard. They can get their mouths or legs caught in them. There is a smaller size collar carried at my pet store, but for the life of me I can't remember the brand. My favorite collar is Beastie Bands. They can be cut to any length, are soft and stretchie and fasten with velcro. Becky

I just got a Beastie Band, Baylee (who HATES collars with a passion) doesn't even notice it's there! I mean, she fights it for a second when I first put it on her, but since then she's been great!

That being said, I'm having a hard time getting her ID tag onto the place where I'm supposed to be able to attach tags. Oh well, one step at a time - I'm sure she'll flip out when I put her tags on her!

I just slide the ring of the ID tag onto the collar, I don't use the grommet. Works fine. Becky

What's a grommet? I eventually got the tag on, it took some pliars and patience, I think the little ring was so small that it required a bit more effort than I would've liked.

The little metal ring in the collar that you are supposed to put the tag on is called a grommet. There are big ones in the corners of tarps and many shoes have grommets lining the holes. You are much more persistant than I if you got the tag ring into the grommet on the Beastie Band. To me, one of the big draws of the Beastie Band is that you can buy seasonally appropriate ones, so changing the tag has to be easy for me. Becky

I was very persistant... and I've seen a lot of cuter bands that I'd love to her so now I wish I weren't so persistant - I might order one or two from ebay. Do you have any pictures of how you got the tag on? I'm feeling a bit confused now!

The tags I have come with a split ring. I, sacrificing several fingernails and all of my good nature, manage to get the ring onto the tag. Then I relax for a day or two to recover. Then I just thread the collar through the ring and put the collar on the cat. You just have to be careful not to lose the tag when you remove the collar, because it will fall right off. Then you are on your hands and knees looking under the bed because the cat will grab it and run. This has happened to me. Becky

The split ring would be like what you usually would put your keys on, right? Yes my fingernails have seen better days since fighting to put the tag on... in fact my nail still hurts! And the first time I put the ring and tag on the collar, I put it on upside down so I had to fight to get the tag off and flip if around.

Sheesh!

Um, Ariana? Did you try just turning the collar over? Then the tag would have been right side up???
(Been there) Becky

But then Beastie Bands would have been upside down. (where it is printed on the collar)

Yes I know it's not important but it would've bugged me.

Let's just say that it was a LOT of work and even though I've seen many cute ones I'd like to buy, I'm not planning on going through that hassle for a while.

Hey quick question - have you heard of any dangers with these bands? I thought I remember reading about how they weren't great because they're not breakaway style?

Well, they don't have the elastic section and the don't have the break away connection. But they are stretchie enough that they will slip off if the kitty was caught on something. So I think they are as safe as the other kind.
How do you know which way the Beastie band words are supposed to be read? I never even looked to see which way mine are. But 2 of my kitties have long hair and only Sally has short enough hair to even see the collar. I haven't gotten Elfie one yet, she has the plain old store variety, so I will pay attention next time I am putting them on. But still, just slip the ring over the collar, it is much easier. Becky

I don't know why I care which way the words are supposed to be read... I guess it doesn't really matter...

And you don't put the ring in the little grommet? Ohhh I get it now. And yeah next time I'll do what you did, save my poor fingers from being in such pain!
