I would recommend investigating a protein-rich homemade (raw or cooked) diet for your cat, who probably got obese from eating carb-based kibble.

He was bottlefed as a kitten. (His previous owners said he was always the "larger" kitten). The vet recommended this food, so I am going to try this. It also helps his hairball control!

YAY!
Thanks Ashley! It'll help get more support--today is pretty good, I went home during lunch and he was pretty good--a little hungery, but that's to be expected. He's so much more playful already though!!!

my cats love DAbird. It flutters when you move it like a real bird. I bought one at a cat show and can't find any sold in my area. They do have it at Dr. Foster and SMith, but I don't shop online

Today I was at work all day, but Zack said he slept on the bed a good couple of hours and no whining!
He is doing great today! About to settle down and give him his nightly pill. Will get his cat dancer tomorrow at Petsmart. I'll let you all know how it goes

Nighty night!

We should update eachother. My bubby George has to loose weight. Actually the vet said if I could get him down to 20 lbs that would be good ,15-18 would be perfect. I had tried all the diets so we had to get radical (diabetic - but not now). He lost .5 lb in three weeks. He put him on a high protein and he gets 1/2 c dry per day. He is really not starving as I thought he would be. Vet says because the high protein diet causes them to feel less hungry.

Let us know how Mittens likes it! Beryl's kitten Ebony was a bit confused at first by it (I think, you'll have to ask her) but now I've heard she really likes it!

Ari--he loves it!! I have never seen him more excited. Didn't get a chance to play with him a lot because I had to get back here to work. But, I can already tell he will be having lots of fun with it!

Taking his pill this morning was a lot easier than last night. Anyone have any suggestions on better ways to give cats their pills? I really could use some pointers for the next 6 days!

I'm so glad!!!
I think if he gets riled up like Baylee does it'll help him get fit in no time! If you get a feather wand toy (I've heard Da Bird is great though I only have a generic one from Petsmart and it still works really well) and alternate with the Cat Dancer and the feather wand toy he'll be running around like crazy!

I have no idea how to give cats their pills easier... the one time I did it, I swore to never do it again. Someone mentioned coating it in butter so it slides down easier? My vet tried chasing it with a syringe full of water...

Good luck!

I couldn't find Da Bird at Petsmart. I think the Cat Dancer is good for now though

Brilliant!!! i'm so pleased Mitten loves it

As for the pill, i have to get the vet to give my two their wormer because i just can't fool Rosie!. I was able to in the beginning but now she knows.

I used to coat it with a tiny bit Marmite, i think you know it as Vegemite?, basically anything really that takes the smell of the pill away.

You have to order Da Bird online, which is why I don't have one. But you're right, the Cat Dancer will be great... I'm still so happy he likes it!
