Thank you...
You must be joking. No cat will lose 10 pounds in a few weeks by eating one meal a day - i fail to see the point of even making that sort of comment. I apologise if i am too blunt with the way i come across, but i genuinely commend this individual for making an effort to protect the welfare and health of this cat.

If you have an issue with the way i made my comments i make no apologies. I DO apologise however for not reading all the posts (it IS a very long thread). Once again i state, 1 cup a day is what my veterinarian friend suggested, what i suggested and what the cat owner's own vet suggested. It is silly to contemplate a cat losing 10 pounds in a few weeks by eating that amount.

I think Candie only meant losing the 10lb as a figure of speech?!.

Thanks. Also, I know for a fact a cat can't lose 10 pounds in few short weeks...it was in fact "figure of speech" trying to make my point across....ugh!

Our concerns, anfernee, are that he is losing weight at a healthy rate of speed. this is all. I was not trying to say that you're being horrible to your pets. I simply meant that if she were to be more stringent, per the post that you offered up stating that you felt, as someone that is not a vet, or a feline dietician (If such a thing exists) that she was not being stringent enough, that it could compromise the health of the cat. She had recieved instruction about a healthy way to deal with mittens weight from the vet, and was sticking to it as best as she was capable given recent developments (one being that her sister was to be monitoring Mitten's food intake while she was away, and clearly wasn't. The other being that she is a working student who has had her father in the hospital- and therefore hadn't been home regularly to make sure Mittens was getting the exercise he needed.)
These are things that affected the most recent weigh in, along with the timing and the change in location of the scale. This is something that has been addressed. I feel that you are being terribly judgemental about how Candie is caring for her pets, and if I were her, I would be offended that you are automatically assuming that I was doing something that was compromising the health of my pets! Within the thread, before you had deigned yourself the foremost authority of pet healthcare and weightloss, Candie had discussed the changes in her feeding patterns and how she was amending the certain problems that Mittens is having. You apparently had not read into the thread far enough to see that information before you decided to tell her that Mittens was terribly obese and that you had the key to his weightloss.
The point I have is, I don't see why you feel the need to be unsupportive of someone that is trying to get their cat healthier, and, when having not attempted to get the entire information by, heaven forbid, spending the time to read all that had already been posted, and digest that information, you took offense when people were confused that you basically bawled her out for it!
In your first post, which brought this whole discussion about, you did not state that one cup" is what you would reduce the feeding to, and so, all of us were wondering exactly what you wer suggesting, to give the cat 1/2 a cup of food per day (as you said that she MUST only feed him once) so he would lose weight faster than 4 lbs in 3 weeks(which is what he had already lost), which, would certainly be too fast. Too many people have cats that are dealing with hepatic lipidosis. We don't want that to happen to her or more importantly, Mittens.

I appreciate all of you and your support.

It's been 2 weeks since the last weigh in and Mittens is keeping a steady weight of 22 pounds.

I was eating lunch today in the living room watching the Noon news and both of them were right in my face wanting my sandwich...crazy animals

Candie, I know what you mean - when I'm eating a sandwich I have 3 pairs of doggy eyes and at least 2 pairs of kitty eyes on me. I almost feel guilty for eating it in the end!

Mittens has stuck this week but at least he hasn't put on
Cable does this, too, whether she's just eaten or not! if i sit back & let her sit in my lap, she pokes her nose or a paw in my plate, so i can't even sit back in my chair anymore. but she just waits for me to finish so she can lick the dish - even dishes with nothing to lick (cheese & crackers, pecans...) she has to check out!

Yeah...but not today!! We had a monsterous storm blow in this morning and man...I never seen him run so fast underneath the bed! I think they are both missing Zack too...we spent the night by ourselves while Zack went on a business trip to Austin...they've been sad.
He should be back in 3 more hours though.

I told my sister-in-law to not feed him 2-3 cups a food AGAIN! She is suppose to watch them here in about 2 more weeks...I specifically told her if she couldn't feed him when I ask she needs to tell me instead of over feeding him..and I'll have someone else do it!

My vet recommended Hills Science Diet WD for my cat. She's lost about a pound - we didn't start her on it until New Year's Eve. What dry food did your vet recommend?

1 pound in a month or 2 is pretty healthy for a cat.. like what did I say before 5 in a human? Make sure your kitty keeps getting excersize. the lighter they are, the more they have to work to loose weight

Hi Factor. I can't remember the brand from off the top of my head. Next time I get a bag, I'll look. I just dump the food in his container and throw the bag away...
