is it possible that your scale was off or is off? I'm wondering what the vet's scale would say (also, Perhaps anfernee was talking about that Huuuuge cat posted at one point) Having only gained 4 lbs in 2 years isn't that bad, you know? I mean it's heavy, but it's an issue you've resolved at this point, no use in feeling down about it...Also, maybe he needed to have a BM and a pee when you weighed him? I doubt he could have gained weight wit you measuring out his food and such. did you use the same scale, was it balanced differntly, on a different floor that could have thrown a bad reading?

Oh yeah, I didn't think about the other pic of the cat that was posted...

I put the scale on another floor, so that's probably what happened, that and I just fed him...

Thats sounds to be the problem Candie!.

I always weigh myself on the same day, on the same spot, and before i have my breakfast otherwise i'd weigh heavier.

Keep it up Mittens is doing great!

I didn't! When it was posted, I thought to myself...they are all going to think that's my cat. Is there a way to have it deleted so people will stop getting confused?

In post # 10 and 11 you attached images.. thats a huge cat!! I used to think the cat I had before was "big"...but holy cow, he would look like a dwarf compared to Mittens. *grin*

Edit:
OMG!! Now I just saw the one in # 67... now THAT cat is twice the size of yours! I am going to have cat nitemares tonight! *Screams and runs away*

Can I just say I never realized how much he looks like Max (especially with the little white smuged on the nose)! I guess when I started reading this thread we didn't have Max yet... Mittens is so cute!

Ari--he does! I was just thinking about how much Max does look like Mittens. I love the white smudges they have!

Steph--thank you for all of your support!

I appreciate everyone's too!

Abby (my sister-in-law) watched him this weekend and I think she may have overfed him because he had a ton of food in his bowl when we got home. That could be a good thing...ugh...I am just so emotionally drained today from this weekend ( I have a thread on my dad in the Cat lounge).

I know Susan...this test I have in Art history tonight too doesn't help either
I'll be ok, maybe I'll get something nice for Valentine's Day that'll cheer me up...I've already loaded up on candy today and went home during lunch to snuggle with Mittens!
The purrs are the perfect medicine for a sad heart, you know what I mean?!

Candie, I applaud your enthusiasm, but you want slow and gradual weight loss and not a sudden drop in pounds. We, as humans can handle crash diets and increased activity but cats sadly cannot and obese kitties put on a sudden diet can develop feline hepatitic lipidosis and then you have real trouble. I am working with Wink right now on this very issue, feeding her Purina OM at the vet's request. She has been on it 3 weeks, with about a 5 minute exercise program every three days. She has lost one pound. (She was 14 pounds when we started). Just a note of caution..

One of the things I have done that works out well is I bought her a treat ball, and I put her food in that, and she has to play with it in order to get the food out. I also will put her bowl on the top of the cat condo so she has to climb up to eat it, and climb down when finished. Baby steps is good when getting weight off a cat-
