Every one gives their cats nick names & my boys have plenty of them, but that's not what I'm talking about. I've noticed lately my cats seem to have two names (stick with me it will make sense). They have them name I gave them & then they have the name they respond to. For example my last cat's given name was Smokey, but if I wanted her to actually come when I called her I called her Sunshine. So I've decided that it's not that cats don't come when they are called, they just don't come unless you call them the right name. So what are your cat's given name(s) & their chosen name(s):

Given name ---- Chosen name
Levi ---- Big Boy
Jordan ---- Bug
Isaac ---- (haven't figured this one out yet, but he's only 10 months old)

Good question. The only cat this really applies to in my house is the youngest. His name is Striker, but only answers to Gweeky (he makes little gweeky sounds and doesn't meow, so that is what we call him).

That's very interesting that your babies come only to the names they prefer!

Sierra comes to her name~when it's convenient for her, of course.
She also responds to Baby, Baby Girl, Sweet Sierra, Sweet Girl, and Sweet Baby Girl.

Nedicks only comes if I make kissy noises, or if I rattle the treat bag.

Nathan responds to Nathan (when it suits him) and "Hey!" when I catch him doing something he's not supposed to and he tries to make up with me by rubbing his little head against my shins.

Oh yeah, mine have several nicknames!!! They respond better to their nicknames than they do their given names!

Snickers === Snicky
Dusty === Moppy
Zorro === Buddy
Hamtaro === Hammie, better known as "The Monster"
Miss Jessie === Messy
Miss K.C. === Nuttycase

If one of the cats are hiding (you know how they do that... so you run through the house in a panic and do the cat-count?)... they will only really respond to their nicknames. Heck I can't remember the last time I called "Zorro" by his real name, to his face. He's just my Buddy.

Molly comes to me to get love if she hears "Moseytoes!' , Paige knows it's playtime if I call her 'Piggy' and Ghibli knows Gibby, and GibbyWibbits, and comes to those-but knows that Ghibli means he's in trouble.

Yes my 3 big boys have two different names. I got them when they were 3 days old and I took them to the vet the following morning and when they asked me for their names I told them the first thing that came to my mind. The night before I had seen Southpark so I gave them the name of Cartman, Stan and Kenny. Cartman is now Gordo, Stan is now Peluchita and Kenny is now Paco but when they go to the vet they are Cartman, Stan and Kenny.

That's really interesting... I was reading Outwitting Cats and it said that sometimes your cat will not like the name you chose for them, that he might prefer a different one.

That being said, Baylee never really responds to me...
Just kidding. Baylee will respond to Baylee, Bay-Bay, Goober, Pookie, Mama or Baby, depending on her mood. Baylee Ann is when she's in trouble but I never wanted to give her the middle name Ann... it just comes out when I'm frustrated!

The most mine respond is to crack an eye open and look to see if I'm going to give them anything interesting. Except for Samson he's deaf so I just wake him up and he comes running. He is so neat because he is always looking directly in your face to see if your talking to him
The rest of the crew only come if they FEEL LIKE IT.

The fluffernutter thing cracks me up because that's what I call Isaac all thought he's not good at coming when I call him that either, but if I pick up a ball to throw for him he's right there. Jordan used to be binksy, but he never came to that, just recently I started calling him Bug (which is short for cuddle bug) because he's taken to sleeping under the covers with me at night. Levi has responded to Big Boy for a long time now. He actually comes every time I call "Where's my Big Boy?"

All of mine have 'variations' on their names that they will also come to:

Bear is also Bear-Bear but because I also call him Lion and Lion gets called Bear, he also comes to Lion

Lion is also Lion-boy - and he comes to Bear or Bear-Bear - he knows who I mean too

Tristan comes to Tris-tris or Trissy-boy

Abbie is also Abbie-Girl and Abbigail

Freia comes to Frey-Frey

They all come to 'kittlecats':-). Lion and Bear are actually their kitten names - they have adult names that they like to hear every now and again: Lion is Quatzecoatl and Bear is Dariavash. Trust me, they suit:-).
