Yes my cat does the same thing, especially when I'm not home. His name is Diamond and I had him fixed when he was really young. At first I thought it  had something to do with him sexually, but I'm not sure. If anyone does know why they do this, please send me a reply.

Welcome to TCS. Your cat carries your clothes around because they smell like you. He is playing with you by proxy. He meows to let you know he is wanting attention and is talking to you. I had a chatty cat that would talk to me all day. I invite you to introduce yourself and your cat in New Cats on the Block. Be sure to include a couple of pics of your furkid.

One of my cats does this all night long, with our shoes. She has a shoe fetish. She drags shoes all through the place, and meows very loudly while doing it. . She searches through every room and closet for shoes. In the morning, there is literally a path of shoes leading into the bedroom. I hope the hunting and not being able to enjoy it isnt frustrating her. I have offered her treats when she does this but she dorsnt seem interested even though i know she likes them.

Hi,

While I'm not really concerned about this behaviour, I'm really curious why my cat does this. He's an 8 year old tomcat, very gentle and sweet, and quite free of any serious bad habits.

Once in a while he tends to pick up pieces of clothing from a pile of dirty laundry which (I'm ashamed to say) we usually leave lying on the floor. He then carries this in his mouth, usually to the middle of the hallway floor, meowing loudly. There doesn't seem to be any playfulness involved.

This only seems to happen in the daytime. Usually we have just come home from work to find pieces of dirty loundry in the hallway, or occasionally in the living room. Recently, however, I started working from home, and thus have had the privilege to observe this ritual (it really seems like a ritual) in progress a couple of times.

Has anyone observed this kind of behaviour or heard of it?

Thanks,

My cat does the same thing.

Hello siggi! I was dumb founded when I Googled, "why does my cat carry clothing around the house while meowing?", and your letter came up! I am thrilled to know there is another EXACTLY like my sweet stupid kitty. You have described my cat to perfection. Have you gotten any responses as to why this behavior occurs? I, like you, don't find it bothering, just strange. Just tonight I got home from work and my daughters pajama bottoms were in the hall in front of the door. Thank you for sharing.

hi..i came on this siite because i wanted to ask the same question...it is really cute, and out of me my hubby and daughter, she only does it to me,and she meows really loud as she brings it in the hallway,or living room...i think she wants us to acknowledge her trophy....Now i put a few shirts that i don't wear often on my bedroom floor, and by night they are usually all out in living room, sometimes my night clothes also. at night i usually pick them up and put them back on my bedroom floor so she could start fresh the next day...lol...if i don't pick up the one or how many she has carried out,if we don't pick them up that night, she won't bring anymore out till we pick up the other one...lol..i have tested this theory....i left one shirt out in living room, and she didn't bother with the other ones for 3 days

when i picked up that one,and brought it  back to my room, she started dragging them out again the next day....lol..itis so cute,we always know she is brining them out when she meows....i  have no idea why she does that, but i have resorted to leaving a few of my other shirts out that i don't wear instead of her dragging my good stuff all over the floor.

who knows why cats love playing with or carrying around clothes?  we had a cat who carried around hair ties from the time he was able to walk.  he'd eventually wash them in his water bowl and then hide them under the couch (we didn't know that for some time, and eventually found over 50 hair ties under the couch LOL).  he'd also run around really fast with a lightweight shirt in his mouth, letting it fly behind him.  he loved his lightweight shirts so much we bought him some of his own to carry around and play with :)

One of my 2 cats does this, a female calico who was adopted when she was just a kitten.  She carries bundles of socks out of the sock box, with a really sad meow.  Since she was fixed before we adopted her, we always thought this was some kind of redirection of the mother instinct.

I have had cats that brought me socks that and would meow as they were bringing them in the room. One would bring socks to bed and drop them on me. My other cat would drop them in the room right in front of me. I think they were bringing me their kill. Both cats were fixed and indoors their entire lives. I thought it was cute and would thank them for sharing. One would bring me black socks and one would bring me white socks.

@siggy
 I think I know why he does that. And I also think that he had enough with you.
I just read his mind - (kitty) ~ ' hey human, your laundry is stacked all the way to the ceiling and it's blocking my treadmill (washing machine) :wife: :stomp:
Get them washed or I'll raise your rent! :devilish: :wait:

All of our cats carry around various toys while meowing but we have one who carries toys directly to the water dish. Every morning we find a collection of sad drowned hair ties, fuzzy mice, and rattle balls.
 What's up with that?!
