Hullo all, ^.^
I was here before asking for advice on my kitten of 6 weeks that had lost the use of her back legs. Well! Everything is going great now, I decided of course to stick with her and she's up and running around. She can now fully stretch her legs and she wobbles a bit but she's slowly improving. I still have to express her bladder twice a day but that's not really a big deal to me. Here's my question, maybe I'm just looking for a sign of hope..

Used to be that when she had to poo she'd just go wherever she happened to be, because she couldn't feel it obviously. I've just been getting up in the morning and putting her in her litter box until she went, same thing at night. Recently I forgot to do that a few times and! Instead of just randomly going she actually went into the bathroom where her box is.. and NO she didn't actually USE the box... but! She went right next to it.. 4 times in a row. Now to me this says, she can feel it if she's going somewhere specifically for that purpose. What's your input here?

My input is, she knows where to go but can't quite get over the sides of the litter pan as easily as she used to. For Black Bart the kitty I cared for whose owner ran him over and then left him to "heal himself" I ended up getting a flat tray that had no high sides to it. After a time of recuperation, and when the nerves started regenerating, he would go to this tray on his own and do his business. Of course, I had to sweep up more cat litter than I wanted to, but it was so much easier for him than using a standard pan.

It is a cat's instinct to cover their waste, your cat could no more quell that instinct than you could stop breathing voluntarily. You need to make it so the cat can move easily on to the place to poop and pee, even if you have to sweep up afterward.

Congrats on sticking with this cat of courage-

this person has a cat who had stumps instead of legs and what they did is buy a litter box that is made for dogs because it is not just a square box like most cat litter boxes but is sort of flat in the front like an opening. Can this help this kitty? I wish I could be more help, but how great of you to keep this kitty. There are places out there that help with disabled kitty's . If you need any sites for this please just ask.

Please! That would be great! And thanks for the dog litter box idea I think that's exactly what I'm looking for!
