Well the north of Scotland has officially hit hurricane status - we have windspeeds well in excess of 100mph... the roof of a major supermarket here has come off... a 70 foot tree is now lying sprawled across my back garden and two others, pulling down a power line to rest on my back gate (live power line and a wet gate.... can you see it staying live for long?) It looks like I was right to be worried about those trees - we were very lucky it didn't come through the roof. The inside of my porch is just drowned where rain has been blown in under the front door, the river is just about to burst it's banks and there's a person still missing from the area. The whole house was shaking last night - and that must have taken a helluva a lot to do, because I'm in a terraced place, so it means that the wind would have had to be shaking FOUR houses! And apparently we're in for worse to come. I've taken my little boy to stay with my mum until the rest of the weather passes. I don't know how the rest of the country has fared, but certainly Moray has been hit quite hard.... hopefully we'll be safer now that we're only on one floor....

Oh Emma i've been waiting for you to come on to ask if your ok!.

Weve got winds here in the North at the moment which are between 70-80 mph but your area has the worst of it. On saturday where i live the police had to close the road because the wind had blown down a wall of a house and two trees had up rooted in someones garden.

Where i used to live in Northumberland they've have had no running water or electricity since saturday and some of them won't get it back to normal until friday

I hope it blows itself away by the weekend

Holy cow! I had no idea you guys were getting such horrible weather! (Typical US news...no where else in the world matters unless it's a horrible disaster...
)

I hope all of you guys stay safe and dry, and everyone's homes stay solid.

it's been really freaky weather - you're right Susan, Scotland has taken the brunt of it - the West in particular, but we're right on the coast where we are so there's a lot of flat groud where the wind has reached unbelievable speeds. We dont' usually see this kind of weather - this is the worst storm in a decade and the first hurricane since '87 (Michael Fish's famous quote: "it's alright madam, you have nothing to worry about - there is NOT a hurricane on it's way" - that was the night that half of England disappeared) It's well wierd and uber scary! But we're all in one piece (though mum's car is not) and hopefully we'll all be back on track in the next couple of days. The damage is tens of millions of pounds... I hate rain. I hate cold. I hate wind. Always have... and this just supports my bad weather hatred
Catch you guys on the other side!! Stay safe Susan!

1987!. I have to admit i was trying to think today the last time we had really high winds that lasted this long?!
.

I've just got in and the wind has turned into a biting cold one
My heating is always set to come on so that its warm for when i get home. I only have a 10 minute walk from my train station but when it's cold like this i have to go straight into a hot bath to defrost because i won't warm up properly

Well i'm locked up for the night and thats the main thing!

You take care as well Emma, and thanks for your thoughts everyone

Wow... that's pretty amazing... getting up this morning and finding it looking really normal outside! I just want to ask everyone for good vibes for the two missing children now. I'd always hope that they are found alive... but they've been missing for a couple of days now. I pray they're found and send heartfelt love for the mother who was swept away with them and lost them... I hope they can be reunited.
