>
> Oh, God, please spare my boys!"

> She fought to loosen her pinned hands;

> She struggled to get free,

> Th e cop just looked confused and asked,

> "Now, how can that be true?"
>
> The boys said, "Mommy, Daddy came
>
> And left a kiss for you."
>
>
>
> He told us not to worry
>
> And that you would be all right,

> And then he put us in this car with

> The pretty, flashing light.

> We wanted him to stay with us,
>
> Because we miss him so,
>
> But Mommy, he just hugged us tight
>
> And said he had to go.
>
>
>
> He said someday we'd understand
>
> And told us not to fuss,
>
> And he said to tell you, Mommy,
>
> He's watching over us."
>
>
>
> The mother knew without a doubt
>
> That what they spoke was true,
>
> For she recalled their dad's last words,
>
> "I will watch over you."
>
>
>
> The firemen's notes could not explain
>
> The twisted, mangled car,
>
> And how the three of them escaped
>
> Without a single scar.
>
>
>
> But on the cop's report was scribed,
>
> In print so very fine,
>
> An angel walked the beat tonight
>
> On Highway 109.

That is a beautiful poem! Thank you for sharing it with us. I once had to render aid to a man in a crushed pick up truck (he crashed in a blizzard). Anyway, I get claustrophobic, and when I was trying to keep him covered & talking, I suddenly felt cold, trapped, and my old neck injury was hurting so much, and I couldn't be there anymore, and then the moon broke through the clouds and I felt a PRESENCE, and a warm caress on my cheek (the chill factor was -30, a real Sierra blizzard) and I felt so comforted, calm and warm! And the man became fairly alert and was able to tell me his first name and that he had 2 sons (pretty good considering he would spend the next 5 days in ICU before being transported to a city hospital, and that a year later, he still wouldn't be walking). The CHP gave me a certificate because the man's condition was so critical and the ER doctor called me at home the next morning to tell me that the guy arrived at the hospital with less than a 30 percent chance to make it, and had he waited even an hour more for help, he would've perished, so I am convinced that the PRESENCE was more than a figment of my imagination. When I stopped to find the wreckage (about 2am, I was driving home from my night job), it was due to an overwhelming urge to stop - it took awhile, but I spotted the truck using my rear view mirror. The Caltrans plow operators later told me that they had made 4 passes that night and didn't spot it. When I told them about my "feelings to stop & help" they said, "Spooky", but my cats and horses understood perfectly when I told them all about it.
