Has anyone tried the new Microsoft AntiSpyware program? I gave it a try and it found a few extra problems that others don't, even though I did full updates and scans with them first.

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx

NOTE: For anyone that stumbles upon this thread, this program will only work with Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Serverâ„¢ 2003.

Stacy,

We also use Adaware, so maybe we ought to try this new one. If this can be downloaded, can you help us with a link to the site?

Thank so much,

Ann

I have Spybot and Adaware on this machine too, but MS found more stuff that I hadn't been able to get rid off. So it looks like combos are the best choice.

Just discovered that this M$ cleaner-upper only works on XP and 2000. We are happily slogging along on 98SE, and "if it ain't broke...."

Thanks much for the heads-up, 'tho, gang.

After seeing what happens on DH's PC and what happened on my work PC, I definitely think combos are the way to go for spyware and for viruses. It's pretty scary if you think about it.

I agree. One anti-spyware program just isn't enough, and I keep my computer as clean as a whistle. I use Ad-aware, Spybot, Hijack This and haven't had any bad detections for months and months. Then I download the Microsoft beta and it found 3 things.

It is very sad. It's a good thing that the best ones can be used for free.
I used to swear by zonealarm for years until Microsoft released the free one with Service Pack 2 and it proved to work jsut as well. Hopefully they will release the anti-spyware progam with another service pack, but that might only be limited to wishful thinking.

Sorry. I didn't see your reply until now. Service Pack 2 has been working perfectly for me. I love it because of the built in firewall that actually works. It takes up less resources and doesn't have to load up in the Taskbar the same way that ZoneAlarm does, so boot ups are slightly faster too. It's too bad you can't install Service Pack 2 on your computer. I have no idea why. Do you have any clue?

No I dont know why at all... i tried the automatic update and it wouldn't do that so i ordered the free upgrade CD and that wont work either!! I dont have any problem with boot up time so Im not really that worried, I'd just like to have it on here.

Loving my beautiful baby girl
I have Windows 98SE, so this wouldn't work for for me.
I use Spybot, but my computer has really been running slow even with running this everyday. Could you guys please give me some of the links for some of these other anti-spyware programs? Maybe these other programs would help?
