It's so strange because I was just thinking to myself today that I never see any stray cats around this neighborhood after I had read a thread about someone seeing a bunch of stray cats in their area.

So imagine my surprise when I came home from running errands a little while ago, and found this guy in my driveway! He's obviously a stray. He was very dirty and his hair felt really coarse and yukky like he hadn't been cared for in a long time. He wasn't neutured and he looked like he'd been in more than one cat fight. His right ear has a lot of notches in it where it looks like it has been bitten several times. But even under all that dirt and grime and scars.....he was a beautiful cat. He had the bluest eyes which was strange for a full grown orange tabby. He was also HUGE! He dwarfs Leo....I would guess that he probably weighs a good 25-30 pounds!!

He was very sweet too.....although extremely skiddish of me. It took several minutes for me to coax him over to me. (but then I've always had a way with animals) I sat down on the driveway and just kept talking to him and holding my hand out. He crept closer and then began rolling around on his back. Each time he rolled over.....he'd roll a little closer to me...until he finally got right up to me and he stood up and just plunged his head into my hand to be petted. I petted him for several minutes and he just loved it. Then I went inside and fixed him a big bowl of food and a bowl of water. He dove right into that and ate like he hadn't eaten in a long time.

My camera scared him though, so it was hard to get really good pictures of him. I had to stay a good distance and zoom in to take his picture so he wouldn't run off. I thought about trying to catch him and take him to the shelter here (which is a no-kill) and give him the chance at a new life. He's such a pretty cat and his basic personality seems like he's very loveable. But I was kinda afraid to try and pick him up because he's so big and skiddish. He could have really hurt me if he had freaked out while I picked him up. I guess I'll keep an eye for him and keep feeding him until he learns to trust me a little better.....then I'll try to get him.

Bless you for feeding him, I hope he warms up to you and you and the shelter can find him a good home!

I just went and checked the bowls and he ate every bit of that food and drank half the water! (and you can see how much food I put out in there) He's nowhere in sight though. I came on in the house while he was eating because I could tell that I was making him nervous and I wanted him to be able to eat in peace.

I hope he'll come back.

I'm sure he will... I mean, maybe in his eyes you're the chef at some fantastic restaurant - I'm sure he hasn't eaten that good in a while!

What a gorgeous cat!! I don't think I've seen such a beautiful stray!
Try calling the Animal Shelter to see if they can send someone out with a trap - that way you wouldn't have to try to catch him yourself and they could take him right to the shelter where he'll have food and warmth and company!

He really is a pretty cat. I could just imagine what he would look like if he were cleaned up and eating healthy so that his fur would look better. I can't get over how big he is!! I swear...he'd make two of Leo....and Leo is a big cat....or so I thought. I wish I had gotten a picture of him next to something that would show his actual size.

what a beauty! He is a big boy though-and so muscular looking! I dont know anything about strays but I would agree that letting him get a little more comfortable with you first is a good idea. Good luck! I'm glad he wandered into your neck of the woods

btw-LOVE the barney bowl. hehe

I was wondering who would notice that! That used to my daughter's bowl when she was a baby. Now I just keep it around for times just like this......when I need a small plastic bowl.

I still haven't seen the kitty since he finished eating. He's probably sleeping somewhere after that big meal he ate. He is very big and muscular. I'm sure that he could hurt me if I tried to pick him up while he was scared of me.

Oh Robin! He's gorgeous! I would take him if I lived closer. I just love male cats. Ongoing joke between me and my hubby is that if I gave him a list for the store to pick things up, I would throw in "orange tabby kitty" in the middle of the list. He never brought one home
Oh what am I thinking?! I already have five!

Well Chris.....if I could catch him and make him trust me and feel more secure...I'd bring him to you. He was very sweet....just very nervous. But I'm sure that with some time and lots of love....he'd make an awesome pet.

I still haven't seen him again. I hope that he comes back.

I hope that he returns to you, as well; he is a real beauty. Best of luck with him, and bless you for caring so much

Thanks......I still haven't seen him anymore tonight. At least it's not too cold outside tonight. Although, judging by the looks of him...he's used to spending the night outside. Poor guy.

Oh, he's beautiful!
Poor little (big) guy! How wonderful of you to feed him - trapping him and taking him to the shelter once he's had more time to get used to you sounds like a good idea.
