For the last week, my cats have been giving each other a virus (cold) and I took one to the vet last tues and got Amoxilyn (sp?) and have been giving to 3 cats who showed signs of having the cold.

Tango- a cat I'm "babysitting" for his owner is getting worse tonight. He has been sneezing for the last couple days but now he doesn't sneeze. HOWEVER, he has weepy eyes, keeps licking his nose AND now is sitting crouched up under a lamp with his head toward the lightbulb!! Seems like he is cold but it's not cold in my apt.

He has ate some tonight (notmuch but some).. He also was playing with Pepper earlier (about an hour or two hours ago) and seemed fine. Sometimes he'd play hard then other times he'd be sleeping and acting sick..

Should I take him to the emerg vet tonight
or wait till tmr to see my reg vet????

Pls let me know ASAP..

The discharge seems clear.. I just turned a heating pad on and put a thick towel on top of it so it won't burn him. Hopefully that will help him feel warmer??

I just moved him onto the heating pad with a thick towel on top of it and he seems to like it. I didn't want him too close to the lamp cuz I was worried about him getting burnt by the lightbulb.

I also decided to test him and see if he has energy so I took one of the teasers and swung it around and he immediately perked up and started swatting at that. I think that shows that it's not SERIOUS and can wait till tmr do u think??

I would put him in a dark warm room and just leave him be. It really doesn't sound all that serious to warrant a emergency vet bill

I agree but I wanted to double check. I know I am very paranoid with cats due to a previous experience with a cat I had adopted (Sunniday) that turned out to have CRF and I still wonder if I had been more observant that she would have lived longer. Due to this, any time I see my cats start acting a bit sick, I tend to freak out.

Thanks for ur input. I will call my reg vet tmr. THANKS.. He just moved off the heating pad so I guess he didn't like that after all.

Pamela - Just wanted to wish you luck with Tango. It sounds like you're being very observant and caught the signs of illness early.

Don't be too hard on yourself about your CRF kitty. Cats are masters at disguising illness and because of that we often don't know they are ill until it has become serious.
I also had no idea my cat had kidney trouble. I only discovered it when I took her in for a routine exam and bloodwork.

Please let us know how Tango's doing.

KTLynn- thank you for checking in on me regarding Tango and for your words of comfort about Sunniday (RB cat with CRF).

I was not able to take Tango to the vet today cuz all the vets are out but I have an appt with my vet tmr at 10 45. He seems a bit worse and now he has a greenish discharge from his eyes. Last night the discharge was clear but now is starting to be green.
However, he is still playing and is eating some so I think he will be okay till tmr. Am still giving him medience and ending up with scratches from it.

About Sunniday- there WERE some warning signs but I brushed them aside thinking it was because of old age and obsesity (I adopted her when she was already old/fat) so that's why I still wonder... That's why I try to doublecheck about everything now.
