I noticed a tiny furless bloody spot on Penelope's nose this evening. Looks like one of her sister's claws might have been there or something else scratched it. I put a little dab of neosporin on it because I don't want it to get infected. Is there anything else I should do?

Nothing more at this time if she seems fine. Areas around the mucus membranes tend to heal quite quickly as when Sasha got mauled he was a mess and that area healed very rapidly. Watch it, as it should start to harden/scab over within 24 hrs. If it refuses to heal or reopens, then take her in. You are so good to have noticed it Snow! Penelope is adorable!!

Thank you so much, Elizabeth! I can't tell you how much better you made me feel!

you know, Cable has some furless spots. i've been treating them w/neosporin, but i think their from the plastic dish i was using to feed her her special 'wet' kitten food. i changed to a ceramic dish, & the spots are clearing up. just FYI...

I remember reading that thread on plastic bowls and I was convinced enough to switch exclusively to ceramic ones. (I used the plastic ones just for the wet food). So you think the neosporin is okay? I can't think why it wouldn't be but you never know...

Glad to hear Cable's doing better. Are she and Pixel getting snugglier with each other?

Laureen, that is most interesting because about a year ago there was a thread on "kinds of bowls", and a lot of people use ceramic bowls or stainless steel as opposed to plastic ones. Plastic will wear down and get grainy and rough, which can lead to scratches on the nose when your kitty licks the bowl per say. It also holds microscopic bacteria in the little ridges it gets over time, and this also can contribute to him/her "getting stuff" even though you might wash the bowls very well. After I learned this, I switched Sasha's little blue plastic bowl to a very smooth stainless steel.

It looks better. No blood now. You're right -- it did heal quickly! I'll keep an eye it, though, to see if it worsens. Thanks for all your help!
