Your wonderful people, your story brought tears to my eyes. I don't have a lot to say, just that I hope all goes well with Naomi, let her know she is in our thoughts and prayers.

OH, Laurie! What a disappointment! I hope ...I don't know what to hope for! Just that whatever needs to happen to get her back on track happens. I'm so sorry you've had this setback.

Oh Laurie - I've just caught up with everything that you Gary and Naomi have been through in the last week or so. I'm so sorry she isn't with you at the moment and just hope and pray that she's safe and doesn't go back to the drugs after all the work she's done to get clear of them.

Keeping you all in my thoughts and hoping that Naomi gets in touch soon.

I know this isnt the same but its nearly in the same category.
My mum told us she wanted to quit. (alcohol)
but she never mentioned it anymore.
a month later she started hitting the bottle really hard.
she hadnt been sober for 10 days untill she came and visited me. her skin was all blue and red.
There isnt much to do for her anymore. It just breaks my heart that such sweet people like my mother and your daughter go crazy like this.
My mother hasnt tried to jump out of a moving car.
but she has tried to jump out of a 4th floor window and tried to go under a truck.
I really wish that i could understand how they think to understand them, and to just fix that little error in their brain so they would be normal, and live to a longer life.
I wish you all the best. Let us know on the updates.
I know youre not going to give up on her.
But for me, i rather for my mother to go with the angels than stay on a planet that is causing her so much pain and having to pass on extreme pain to others who watch her being torn down like that.
All the best and Take care.

I'm so sorry to hear about your setback. Let us know if you've found her. You've been so strong, most people wouldn't have been able to hack it. This girl needs someone like you.

I do hope you all getover this setback and that Naomi makes it home and into treatment soon. I have dealt with an alcoholic friend who ended up twice in emergency rooms and almost died, so I know how frustrating it can be. You are doing an amazing job and I wish you and Naomi all the luck in the world.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
First of all, I know I keep saying this, but I really mean it - thank you all so, so much for your wonderful thoughts for Naomi.

Fwan - I do know how you feel. But Naomi isn't ready to give up on the planet despite all the pain it causes her, and she still wants to fight this!

She called about an hour ago. She hooked up with her friend Chris and she did shoot up - both last night and this morning. But this evening she went to a detox place a counselor at the drop-in place she used to visit weekly in NYC had talked about. Our Lady of Mercy up in the Bronx. It's an in-patient Methodone program, five to seven days. You have to test positive for opiates to qualify for the program, and she "couldn't take" being straight yet, and she felt like she was going crazy. (Turns out she literally was going crazy - she is schitzophrenic). However, she was also consumed with guilt (which probably caused the break with reality) - but as she puts it, she doesn't want us to have a heroin addict in the house (apparently people on methodone are far more functional than people on heroin), and she doesn't want us worrying about her scoring. Apparently there are methodone programs in NJ where you only have to be 18 to participate, and one of them is apparently about 40 minutes from us. Anyway, where she is is not detox really - they switch her from heroin (illegal and intravenous) to Methodone (synthetic heroin that is legal when registered in a program and you drink it instead of shooting it), get the levels straight, provide some counseling, and give them some time to fight the desire to shoot.

She asked Gary what happened last night - she does not remember. She said that she found herself in NYC and didn't know when or how she got there, and she was too scared to call because she didn't know what she'd said or done - and this has happened in the past, and she'd said and done terrible things. She told Gary that she remembered being in a hospital several years ago where "someone" - she thinks a doctor - told her that she's schitzophrenic.

She said when she "woke up" in NYC that she couldn't feel anything, and for a while she thought she was dead. She said she really wants help getting out of this nightmare. She talked about going into an inpatient rehab program after she gets out of this "detox" program. Gary told her that he thought maybe she should go into a three month or six month psych program where she can not only work on her addiction problems, but also get therapy for "all her issues and anxiety" and get treatment for the schitzophrenia - but not to worry about that now, we'll look into programs and we can discuss them with her when she comes back here.

One of the counselors from the program is going to call us in the morning, and there's a few things she'd like us to bring to her. When we were finally able to reassure her that we still love her and nothing has changed, she cried and said it's just so hard for her to really belive that there are people that love her that don't want anything from her. We corrected her - we told her we do want something from her: her happiness, health and safety. Which of course caused her to cry even more.

Thank God she's OK.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(We always expected it would be three steps forward and two steps back - or, as in this case, three steps forward and four steps back... but she's taken another few steps forward again....)

I hope this does not sound harsh or cold... but after reading this thread and keeping caught up on it.. when are you going to say like "Enough is enough. The time for stalling is past and you need to get into a program TODAY, no if's, no butts, no excuses. Until you do get into a program you will be under CONSTANT supervision and not allowed to score or take off." Then hold her too it instead of keep letting her go out and enabling her to get a fix? Granted I am not a herion addict and have never tried to get into a program, but after reading all of this thread it sounds to me (an outsider looking in) that shes taking you for a ride and your allowing her in more ways then one. I DO wish you all the best of course, that should go without saying, but I am also concerned not only for the both of you but her as well. At what point do you stop posting and start enforcing as parents are supposed to do? Shes testing you over and over and from this side of the mirror shes the one whos grading the papers..

Wow.. Well for one i have to say I'm glad shes ok. Two, I do agree with Cirque in a way. I know you want to be as nice as possible to her and get her the help she needs when shes ready (I don't have the patience that you obviously have ALOT of) but allowing her to get away with things isn't going to help. My best friends step sister is a heroin addict and they let her get away with a lot of crap, shes gone to jail and then rehab and right back to the street. Shes said shes wanted help so theyve taken her back to rehab and when she gets out she has the freedom to do whatever she wants and she goes right back to using. I can't even count how many times she's been in jail or rehab anymore. This girl had a baby girl to her heroin addict boyfriend in highschool and her mom now has custody because she could care less about her and the rest of the family has given up on helping her because she keeps stealing from the video store that they own. (I hope you can understand the way i had to word that since I don't want to say her name) I know I'm rambling now and i went way off track its late and I tend to do that when I'm tired lol ... I just hope that Naomi doesn't start treating YOU bad. She looks so sweet in her pictures and I do hope she comes around completely and gets herself better without all of the, testing you, drama. *sigh* Ok im done now.
