Influenza. Bronchitis. Sinus Infection.

All three. That's what my diagnosis is.

We took ex-rays to make sure it wasn't pneumonia, but it is just the three (at least for now.) I am now taking enough medication to kill a horse. Cough suppressant (codeine), z-pack, cipro, and using an Albuterol inhaler, coughdrops, and a humidifier at night. My Dr. wants me to call them in 2 days if I don't feel very much better...he's a tad worried it will develop into pneumonia.

I'm a healthy person; this came because I didn't get medical attention last week, when I started feeling really bad and running a fever.

Take note: the flu this year is yucky. Both the bronchitis and sinus infection are "secondary" infections, because my immune system was whacked by the 'flu. So if you start to feel bad, please go in to a Dr. and get some help. And don't go to work (I've been at work this whole time, except Fri, Sat and Sun. Stupid me).

Anyway, if someone's got a vibe or two to spare, I sure could use it.

Now I'm going to go take some codeine, and sleep.

Best-
Michele

Yuck Codiene, I am so allergic!

GSE my dear, Grapefruit Seed Extract (liquid)three drops every time you drink some orange juice- it will wipe out all the nasty bacteria accumulating in your body-

Rest up!

Oh, Michele, you must feel really rotten. I hope you're in bed or at least in a very comfortable chair wrapped up in a blanket right now! I'm sending you healing vibes.

Ugh!
I've been there many times, and it's not fun.
Hope you're feeling better soon
Please be be sure to take good care of yourself over the next few weeks, too, so you don't relapse. If you're really uncomfortable, it can help to sit in the shower or bath with the hot water running & the vent off, to get the room nice & steamy.

Glad you went in, realize now this is going to take weeks before you feel back to normal, so take it easy. And don't delay at all re getting back in to the Dr. My last two flu's did lead to pneumonia, and I'd do just about anything to never, ever have that happen again

Sending some virtual chicken soup...and a suggestion...if the cough syrup doesn't do it for you, ask your doc if you can switch to delsym (not prescription, but this "12 hour" cough med is the only one that gave me about 4 hours of relief last time I was so ill. And 4 hours is enough to get some blessed sleep!) Of course, codeine cough syrups aren't an option for me, I have a nasty reaction to codeine and won't take it.

I can sooooo sympathize! I am very prone to the secondary infections from the flu virus and get on meds as soon as I can get to the doc. Codeine cough preps are wonderful!

I hope the feline nursing staff is doing what it can for you. Nothing like a purr to sooth you.

Yes, Gemlady, they certainly are. Last night I slept - for the first time in about 8 days - a whole 9 hours, only waking once because I felt rotten. This was sweet, sweet bliss.

Again, yes. Esse is staying at my side, sleeping next to me, always within arm's reach. Charlotte is coming for cuddles (very unlike her), Simon is doing his best to entertain me (pity that involves paper bags being ripped to shreds and attacks of my feet...but oh well), Pie is staying close and is being affectionate, and Pengy is being Pengy (but staying in the rocker when I'm in the room, which is good...)

They are indeed doing what feline nursing staff does.

Thanks, and thanks to all who've sent either pm's or posted here.

As of right now, I'm very tired, but feeling better (a bit, at least). The fever hasn't returned yet today (although they say it's more common for them to come in the afternoon), I've gotten a wee bit of an appetite, and the headaches are less. Not much less, but less nonetheless.

I'm not out of the woods, but the trees seem to be thinning.

Time for me to go back to bed now.

hugs to all...

Best-
Michele

Now I know where I get the "I'm gonna be just fine without going to a Dr." mentality.

Dad, 82, has something. He's sick, not as bad as me, but still. Sick. He's taking "left over" cipro from another infection he had about 6 weeks ago.

When I asked him what he meant by "left over," his response was: "well, I got to feeling better, so I stopped taking it. So I've got leftovers." I asked him if he didn't realize he was supposed to take the whole batch of medication, he said "sure. But I got to feeling better, so why?"

I told him that if he wasn't a great deal better by Thursday, he was calling the Dr. "I don't like my Dr." he says.
"Fine, I like your Dr. I'll call him," was my reply.
"I'm not telling you his phone number," was Dad's stubborn-streak comment.
"So call your cancer Dr. You like him...and I already know who he is, and have his phone number. If you don't call Dr XXX, I will."
"fine, but you can't make me take the meds."
"Wanna bet? How do you think all the cats get their pills and I am still alive?"
"Fine. I'll call the Dr," he says, laughing.

ROFL...now I know where I get my stubborn streak. And he will call, or I will. He's too old to be playing with his health....

I am feeling a bit better still. I did have a fever this afternoon, but it was mild; not the chills/sweat thing I've been having. This is very good.

And I even made a Chicken Pot Pie from scratch (I can't stand store bought ones), and ate a piece. It was good. It's nice to have my appetite back.

Best-
Michele
