I am planning on moving at the end of the school year to N.C., my husband has friends there and it is a much better place to raise children than where I am , and cleaner. Where I am it is extremely difficult to find an apt that accepts animals, and those that do charge a $300 per pet non refundable fee(that would be 600 for me) and $20 a month per pet extra on the rent. I am from NYC originally and to me this is extreme, especially when as long as you take care of your pets you can have a few in an apt. in NYC. How is it in N.C.? Is it more pet friendly? thank you for any help you can give.

Depending on what part? I know in Cary/ Raleigh/Morrisville/ Durham, I've had no problem with finding an apartment complex allowing pets. we Paid 100 down I think and 10 a month additional. For 3 cats.

Although, additionally, i note that rent is possibly far cheaper here anyhow, as we're lifing in a 850 sq ft 1 br for 615/mo. You can buy a townhome here for less than 110,000 here with a garage, three bedrooms and a nice sized kitchen. Those are new. older homes lower in price significantly in this area, as low as 90k for a nice sized, clean th.

Where in NC are you? I am in Asheville, until the end of the year. If you are planning on Western NC, you might want to pick up a Iwanna newspaper and look through the ads and you might get lucky and find something.

Good luck!

As Denise said, it really depends on where you have in mind. When we lived in the mountains, Sierra was sort of "against the rules" in 2 of the 3 places I lived because it was rather difficult to find a place where she was allowed. Here in Emerald Isle, we live in one of the 2 beach houses in which Sierra is allowed, and that is with a nonrefundable deposit. Also, as Denise said, I know people in the Raleigh/Durham area who easily find pet-friendly apartments and homes as well as in the Greenville area. Please keep us updated on your plans, sure hope to see you when you get here!
