me and my mother have been wanting to make a cat condo/tree and we were wondering if anyone knew how.like what to use and how to build it so its fun and steady for them. we would buy one but they are too much and we figured it would be funner and cheaper to build them one
.plus we need a distraction for them to quit climbing on our tables and dressers

I know that Sar made a great one and put photos up. It could have been before the crash(!) cant remember but it looked easy and very impressive. Maybe if you do a search....or pm her for details. It really was brilliant.

I don't know what the price of lumber is in your area, but here it is so high, it wasn't worth trying to make our own.

We looked into option for awhile and finally found our 7' tree at a garage sale for $40. If you have a local auction or flea market, we come across them fairly often pretty cheaply.

Funny note, the same place we got the cat tree, we found my long lost uncle that my mom had been searching for for over 20 years. COme to find out he lived only 3 miles from us...go figure.

Buy a sturdy wooden step ladder, put astro turf or carpet on it, wrap sisal rope around the legs and you have what you need, a place for the cats to climb and scratch

Here is a photo of my almost finished Condo (I haven't sorted the newer photos into Photobucket yet!)

Basically, just plan around your tools and your means (money wise!) I built mine with chipboard for the flat pieces (they were actually a broken cupboard that I found in the street) and fence posts for the uprights. The tunnel/tube thing is a cheap plastic bucket with the bottom cut off!

The brackets are concealed now too, but I couldn't stop the cats from having a look!!

It is really stong, as Tibby is pretty active and weighs 1.5 stones (don't know that in lbs?!!) so it needs to hold him!! It takes my weight too, as I stood on it to check!!

If you need any more help, let me know!
