My name is Lynn and I have 2 cats, Kitty is 10 and Buddy is 3. Kitty is my son's cat more or less and Buddy adores my husband. I have a situation that I could use some help with. We bought Buddy two pet beds(found one cheaper after the 1st one, so we put them on the floor where he likes to sleep and he will not go into either one. Can anyone give me some insite into how to attract him to the bed.

Welcome to TCS, Lynn, Kitty and Buddy!

Don't worry about the beds, Buddy will surprise you one day and hoard them both for himself!

Welcome to the site!

Well, getting a cat to sleep in a bed is a hit or miss situation. I bought my kitties a nice bed and neither of them showed much of an interest. Every so often I'll catch one of them in it, but it certainly isn't a favorite place to sleep.

If Buddy likes catnip, you can try sprinkling some on the beds to attract him to them, or spray them with catnip spray. That seems to work for some people.

Thanks for the info. I used catnip but my husband thought it was not a good idea. I will give it another try. Hope it works.

Hi and welcome we have 3 cat beds for our 1 cat Pickles, he uses them when I guess he feels like it, otherwise he considers our bed, and my side of the couch his bed. Both his beds are near the heating vent, (not too close though) and I do notice he sometimes is in the one that is nice and fluffy we, also took a small blanket he uses when he sleeps on the couch and put it in the basket, so maybe he would figure it out that he can sleep there as well hope this helps.

Hi and welcome! I have not gotten a bed for Baylee yet (I'm selfish and like that she sleeps with me) but I bought her a blanket to lie on... how I got her to like the blanket is that I slept it with a few days, making sure to rub my scent on it, then I rubbed her with it. Eventually she found it and has now claimed it as her own. If you have a shirt that smells like you, perhaps you can put it in the bed to make Buddy become more interested in it.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Hi, welcome to TCS, Kitty, Buddy, and Lynn!
So glad you've joined us and look forward to getting to know you better!
Kitties are just funny that way when it comes to beds. Sierra has approved of and enjoyed only one of the countless beds I've given her. The advice already given are great ideas to try! I have also found with anything, it is best to bring it in and put it down and just ignore it like it's not there. If Buddy thinks you are actually trying to get him to get in his new bed, that's the last place he'll want to go! Maybe if you just let him try to get used to it on his own, and like was said earlier, one day he may surprise you and insist that they are both his!

WELCOME TO TCS

as mentioned cats seem to sleep everywhere you dont want them too and nowhere you want them too

we bought 1 large bed for our 2 boys and they loved it while it was the winter months as it was right next to the fireplace - now being summer here they havent put a paw in it for months!!
I would try the catnip again - and as also said one day you will come home and there will be a kitty sound asleep in the bed - it may just take some time.

welcome again from me & my boys
