Hi, I've taken in two scared sweeties and I need help getting them moved along toward an adoption soon! I should NOT have done this, but they were going to be taken by animal control to the local shelter and would have quickly been euth'd. The owner is a drunk and was faced with eviction over the cats, whom he did not spay and allowed to get fleas. The two young girls appear healthy and I am willing to blood test and spay them at our expense (If I can safely catch them?). But we already have 10 other cats in residence and a lot going on (and two are not really ours... more rescues). I have fibromyalgia, which may be immune system problem. My medical doctor would freak if she knew I took in more cats who might have any inclination to scratch or bite me! Long story. If we can't get help and if they don't come around pretty easily, I will have to euth. them. This would be awful. They are tame, I know for a fact. They have been abused and are upset. They are both dilute tort/tabbie with white! Is there anyone in this area? I have already contacted the rescues I know of.... Nancy

Nancy, I am sorry to hear about your situation. How close are you to the shelter in Bayonne on Kennedy Blvd? They may be able to assist you.

you can find a list at petfinder.org, click on the tab at the top. I wish I could help. Also 1800spayusa gives discounted coupons for spays. I don't know what else to say, but luck. cat.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Nancy, you are an angel for taking in these kitties! I'm so sorry to hear about the fibromyalgia - my thoughts go out to you, and I really send you best wishes for a pain-free 2005!!!!!!!!!!

You can also try using this link:

http://www.pets911.com/organizations/organizations.php

Type in your zipcode and it will put up a list of shelters and organizations near you. You can then hit the phone and let your fingers do the walking. You may be surprised at how many organizations you find that are reachable for you. Finding someone to help may be more difficult, but I've been surprised at the results. Sending out prayers and "find these kitties a home or foster care" vibes ----

Laurie

Hi, I want to thank each of you who has responded to us. BTW, I think I deleted one or two private messages accidentally. I'm so sorry and if anyone wonders, please do contact me again! One of the two kitties has come forward and allowed me to pet her. She really turned a corner. They ARE tame, YAY! I also realize that their color is silver patched tabby, mackerel pattern, also have tux white pattern going. They are really drop-deaders. I did not feel any flea dirt, so perhaps the problem owners told the truth about having dealt with the fleas... All the same, I will use Program, which is safe even if they should turn out to be pregnant. I am just wondering which vet will be most helpful (and affordable) around here... Would like to have bloodwork run ... who gets those results back the fastest? Because they could spayed immediately, if negative. I hope to handle them very little and not until they let me gently place them in a carrier. I feel better about the whole situation. I just need to know that there is help out there and that we won't be permanently stuck with the sweeties. They make cat numbers 11 and 12 in our home! My poor husband was trying to finish that room, which is supposed to be our exercise room. HAH! I keep putting cats in it

Where in NJ are you located? I work at Hamilton Vet. Hospital which is resonable in price. Also in this area is, Dr. Solomon, Mercerville, Chesterfield and West Trenton Animal Hospitals. As for bloodwork.. when you sayd if they were negative I am assuming you are reffering to the Leukemia/AIDS tests. It's done by what's called a snap test and it only takes 8 minutes for the results. If you were talking about regular bloodwork -- when we do it in house it comes back same day or if we send it out to a lab it takes a few days.

As for spaying, I know the state does it for low income. And I think you can get it cheaper through organizations such as Friends of Animals. Although all vets don't accept those.
