Is there a better time to feed a kitten her daily serving of wet food? We're free-feeding her dry food, and giving her a nice portion of wet food at night right now. She really does like her wet food, but I went about half an hour later with feeding tonight because I lost track of time, and she didn't seem to mind. I think right now would be a good time to switch, because she's still getting used to having the option of wet food - we just brought her home from the shelter yesterday afternoon.

Thanks!

how old is this kitten? If she is quite young she needs more than one serving of wet food daily. I have a 13 week old kitten here and she gets fed wet food (small amounts) 5 times a day. She isn't much interested in dry food, she would rather bat it around the floor and pretend mom didn't buy her any toys!

8 weeks. She seems to like her dry food, though, and didn't eat all the wet food I just gave her. She's my first kitten, too, so I'm still learning. :3

But she does jump down to her dry food and munch about once an hour. :3 We made sure to get her the kitten food they were giving her at the shelter, and we're letting her get used to the environment before we start mixing in a healthier dry food.

Well for a kitten, I'm not sure. But I've heard that giving cats a meal in the late evening will help them sleep (? Not sure if it's really true...) and besides that, I'm already really busy in the morning and don't want to add another thing to the routine, so I feed mine in the evening. I've heard of people feeding at either time, though, so I don't think that there's one that's really better (as far as I know, anyway - someone correct me if I'm wrong!).

Yeah, I'm not in a very good position to feed her in the morning. I'm a freshman in high school, and I have to get up at 6:45 at the latest every morning, and be out of the house no later than 7:15, because I walk to school. I'd really prefer not to have to feed her in the morning, but if it'll be better for her, I'd gladly make the sacrifice. :3

Edit: As you can probably guess, I'm not an amazing morning person. ^.^;; But I'm getting better, for some reason, at waking up way earlier than I should. o_O I guess it's getting trained into me!

It only takes a minute to feed a cat in the morning. Mine lead me to the kitchen as soon as I get up, I feed them in their three bowls, refill the water bowl, turn the coffee maker on and then go into the bathroom for a few minutes' peace while they eat. By the time I am ready for my breakfast they have eaten and I can rinse their bowls. It is just part of the morning routine.

Freya's still living in my room, until we introduce her to the dog a bit more, and they calm down with all luck, and until we get the tree and tinsel out of the house. Told dad this is the last year with tinsel.

Of course, this doesn't stop Freya from wanting to dash out of the room the moment I open the door x.x And then I have to deal with a scared, hissing kitten under my bed when Abby ((Dog)) tells her in no uncertain terms that she belongs in my room, where I want her.

This morning, Freya decided to wake me up after about four and a half hours of sleep. Apparently, I've slept long enough in her book. X3 So I'll be able to get her accustomed to a morning feeding today. I think I'll keep the evening feeding, too.

Well, I just fed her. :3 She seemed to be very happy to have wet food in the morning, and she's eating a bunch of dry food, now. It makes me feel better to see her eating more, and purring while doing so.

I think this'll be a normal morning ritual now, along witha bit of wet food in the evening. :3

Oh yeah, for most people it shouldn't be a big deal in the morning at all- it only takes so long for me because I have to feed the cats one by one (and I have four of them), and sit there the entire time with each one to keep the others from stealing it, otherwise Esmeralda and Henry would never get to eat (and Meeko and Phineas would rip each other to shreds fighting over the food!).

We got 2 brothers as kittens at 8mos from a shelter.

We don't free feed, but give them a meal every 12 hrs or so.
My husband and I are on shift work, so sometimes they get fed an hour or two early, sometimes an hour or two late... The boys don't seem to care what time they are fed, just so long as they are!

Now, as kittens, we did feed them an extra meal during the day so there was only 8 hrs between meals, and there were PLENTY of healthy snacks as well. (You would be amazed how much cats LOVE dehydrated chicken livers!)
This kept them more active than we knew what to do with half the time!

Do what is best for you.
So long as you keep a routene and don't vary too much, your kitten wont mind much one way or the other.

Mine get fed once in the morning and once in the evening. I understand that for kittens it is up to 5 times a day (glad we are through the kitten stages!) They are fed approx 12 hours apart - whiche fits in well with Mischa diabetic injections.
My mums got a small dog called Freya - its such a great name!

The name Mischa reminds me of the Hannibal Lecter series. XD;

And I think I'll keep her dry food out - she seems to enjoy going to eat after she wakes up from naps. :3 Munches for a good five minutes or so.
