we have two cats, a younger fat male (Sherlok) and an older skinny female (sahsa). Well last night i heard some weird noises coming from upstairs but dismissed them, then tonite my family said that Sherlok was making weeird noises...almost sounded like a motor cycle. He is hiding under the christmas tree growling, and hissing when i go close, and my other cat is sitting in the other room, not moving and staring at him. about 10 mins ago, i went in the room to check on them, and they were about 3ft apart, and both were making the same weird noises (actually kinda sounded like they were mumbling english)and hissing, and sasha was slowly moving backwards. Is sasha in any danger? should i take her in my room for the night? If they did fight sasha would lose, she is quite weak. please reply soon

P.s. im new here so hi everyone, sorry for not introducing myself, i just dont want anything to happen to sasha (i dont really care about sherlok he pisses everywhere)

Are they normally friendly? Any change in behavior warrants a trip to the vet in my book. I would separate them for the night and off to the vet in the morning. Becky

Sherlok needs to be seen by a vet. Something sounds like it's really wrong.

Cats don't tell us they're hurting or sick. They show us, by acting "weird" and by behavior which is utterly uncommon for their personality. For instance, if Simon were to ever get quiet and not want to cuddle, into the vet he goes. Esse, if she were agitated or had lots of energy, blammo to the vet. Charlotte, if she got clingy, well, vet's is in order. And so on.

Since Sherlok is growling and being defensive and protective (hiding under the tree), I'd say get him into a vet ASAP. For the time being, if you think Sasha should be protected, then by all means do so. But please take Sherlok in tomorrow. Something's off kilter.

Best-

I agree with the others, it sounds like something is seriously wrong with Sherlok. Please take him to a vet ASAP!

When cats pee outside their litter box, it's another indication that the cat might be ill and needs to be evaluated by a vet.

well they do fight sometimes, but mostly its just play fighting, and i cant get close to sasha, everytime i go near her she cowers and runs under the table and hides. but now they seem relaxed..like they are both laying down looking lazy, but he is still growling at her, im going to talk to my siter in the morning and suggest the vet, but for now i will try to take sasha downstairs with me...thanks for all the help people

I'm concerned that that Sherlok is sick and showing it by peeing inappropriately and even more confused because you have rejected him for trying to show you he's sick. This same thing happened to my daughter with one of her male cats and he had an urinary tract infection. Please rescue Sasha and get Sherlok to a vet ASAP.

Are they both sterilized? He could have been excited by a passing cat in heat, or another male cat spraying nearby.

well she is older than me by a few months.
By looking in her profile. Although i presume she still lives at home.

Just take both cats to the Vet, She might be saying some bad things to him and he is just really mad at her

But i do think that sherlok is sick too and you should take him to the vet
How about taking sherlok and trying to get friendly with him by showing him more attention??? Instead of sasha?
How long have you had them together for? Is it the early stages of their relationships?
