Hi all
I just have a quick question, not sure if Pickles is losing weight, I know I should try to put him on a scale but he jumps off. My question is do cats tend to lose weight when they have cancer, (he has squamous cell). He is eating, and drinking and still playful and sits on my lap, so he doesn't appear to be in any pain. Also the vet has had him on diet cat food for the past couple of years, (this was before we found out about the cancer). Do you think I should put him back on a regular diet, as there is nothing they can do for the cancer, and maybe he needs a different type of food other then diet. Let me know what you think. Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure about cancer and weight loss, but if you want to weigh your kitty on a normal scale, this is one way to do it. Hold the kitty and weigh yourself. Then weigh just yourself. Subtract the second number from the first and you should have the weight of your kitty.

I agree that is a great way to get his weight. I would not keep him on a diet food, and yes, I would expect eventual weight loss with cancer. Here is an excellent one page article on the nutritional needs and issues of cats and dogs with cancer: Excellent Article

If it were me, I'd find a good quality canned food w/no by-products, lower grain content, good quality proteins - Active Life, Felidae, PetGuard, Natural Balance, California Natural Chicken and Rice, these are all excellent brands to consider.

I wish your kitty all the best,
