Thanks, Elizabeth, for the thoughts - I'll tell Robert. He's very upset.
I've only met the woman once, but have talked to her rather often on the phone. She called this morning to thank my husband for covering for her yesterday (he worked back-to-back shifts, which was the least he could do, IMO), and she's so distraught I didn't know what to say. She doesn't know whether to have her son's remains (which have been microchipped by the ME, a thought that really disturbs her, but I didn't say anything about decomposition; I wonder why they told her that?) transported back here and buried, to have him cremated there and the ashes returned, or to have him buried where his wife and sons, both preschoolers, have apparently perished. The vacation was a gift from her, so she's feeling very guilty. She had to go to their apartment to collect toothbrushes, combs and hair brushes, and turn them over to the local police for forwarding to the German MEs on the spot.
I'm getting to the point where I can hardly bear to watch the news broadcasts - yesterday there was an Indonesian man on CNN who'd lost all of his children. His grief was indescribable.
