Gross! Cat licks bathtub drain and...

OK, this is the most bizarre, disgusting behavior I have witnessed and never would have conceived. Male cat, about 9 m/o, fixed. Otherwise a very normal, friendly, interactive cat - BUT I found him in the bathtub eating the hair and scum around the drain.

Where does this behavior come from? Why? How can I stop it? But he hates hair in his own water! An explanation anyone?

I need some insight and advice on this from the experts.

I would take your cat to the vet for some routine bloodwork just to be safe. Cats can and do eat strange things, and there is a term for it, it is called Pica. You can look it up through Google to find the websites on it, but sometimes when they are licking showers, cemet, bricks or rocks, it is a sign of anemia

One of my kitties sometimes licks the door frames and chair legs. Anyone else have a cat that's attracted to stained/polished wood?
