We left yesterday and had our bedroom door shut which is normally open (had to close it due to unwanted company coming) and when we came home he meowed at me and attacked me while purring. I guess he is mad I didn't leave it open. Do cats purr when they are mad at you?

He may just have been trying to play. My kitten does that all the time!

And cats do purr in odd situations. Hans will bury his head under my arm at the vets becuase he's scared to death, but he's purring like crazy. The vet calls it a "nervous purr". I think it's cute.

Sometimes they purr when they're playing. Willow sometimes does that right before she playfully attacks. One of my parents' cats used to purr so loud when he was at the vet that they couldn't hear his heartbeat. We used to joke that he just loved being there without the dog (he hated all dogs), but he was probably more nervous than anything else.

I definitely had a cat that would purr whilst playing. My lovely departed Jimmy was really intelligent and would initiate games of hide and seek. His favourite hiding place was under a bed up the attic. We would creep round calling "Jim-mee, Jim-mee, where is he? I can't find him ...." when all the time we knew exactly where he was because of the loud purring noise coming out from under the bed.
