My male neutered cat has started urinating particularly on plastic bags but also on pieces of clothing. His litter is changed once a day, everyday as he shares with another cat that has been in the house for approximately 6 months. I need help besides, don't leave plastic bags on the floor which I have been diligent in assuring doesn't happen. He has always been meticulous in not using the litter box if he doesn't feel it is clean enough and doing it beside the box but never this. Help!!!!!

Hi whitewitch and welcome!

First, you need to get him to the vet and check for any urinary tract infections. The fact that he only uses plastic bags does seem to indicate that it's a behavioral thing. so far, I think all the cats that people asked about here that had similar problems, were all diagnosed with UTI, so it's important to check.

You need to tell whether he's urinating or spraying. Please read the article about spraying in this site and tell me what you think.

First I would like to thank you Anne for your quick responce. This particular cat has had F.U.S. three times but the last time was about 7 years ago and this behavior is different, it isn't an obvious difficulty in urinating. Either way thankyou for the advise and the information, I will be making a vetrinarian appointment tomorrow. Thankyou

Thankyou Ann, I did take my Hymalayan to the vets the other day. They did an examine and blood tests. They did not find any crystals but found traces of blood in the urine. The vet feels that antibiotic should clear that up and if it doesn't that it is a good possibility that he has kidney stones and the x-rays will be required. He also thinks that it could be the reason for the urinating. Thankyou for your support and suggestions. Oh, he even urinated on my sons boots, he sleeps and cuddles with him, only him. Go figure.

I hope the medical treatment will get him better soon and will take care of the urinating problem. I still wonder though, if he's not spraying. Have you read the article? Do you think he might be spraying around the house?
