A guy I work with has a 15 year old cat that has just been diagnosed with an over active thiroid. She has lost at 6-8 lbs, so they took her to the vet. The vet said she needs to be on medication which costs $60 a month, but they don't want to do the medication. He was asking me about it & frankly I have no experience with this. The vet told them she will continue to loose weight & will die if the thiroid problem is not taken care of. My question is, what will happen if they do nothing? Is the vet over stating things, & if he's being honest how long can the cat live unmedicated? Also, if anyone has any good links to information about this I'd appreciate them. I'm just trying to help this guy & his wife make the most informed decision they can.
