She is spayed, and about 16 months old. She was fine while Scooter was small enough to need a surrogate mommy, but he is 7 months old now, and does not care to be "mothered" any more. She has begun carrying on like she is in heat, and carries a fuzzy mouse in her mouth most of the time. I found a pile of small toys on my bed that look like a pile of kittens that she had been curled around. Do you think her maternal instinct is just that strong, or could something be wrong with her? Her vet says she is physically fine. She eats like a horse, and plays most of the day, when most cats are sleeping. She wears poor little Scooter out playing, and when he finally falls down for a nap, she snuugles him, and bathes him, whether he wants to be snuggled and bathed or not.

Wow, that is strange. Sorry I don't have an answer for you. I saw on TV once about a dog that had a false pregnancy. She collected portable phones of all things (from the home business) and put them in her doggie bed and laid down with them. Maybe she's experiencing something like that.

I thought about that. I guess it could happen to a spayed cat. She is even losing the hair around her nipples.
