I just found out about this site from Craigslist yesterday, and I figured I ought to introduce myself. I have two kitties. Willow is about six and has been with me for the past five years. I adopted her from Heartland Humane Society in Corvallis, Oregon when I was in college. She's a cuddler who sleeps under the covers with me and drools on my shoulder when I come home. She maintains a perfect figure and weight of about 7 pounds without any help from me and is generally a very healthy cat. She goes to the vet about once every year.
My other baby is a different story. I found him at about 2 am on September 7th this year. He was drinking water from the sprinklers at the track. When I called him, he came running to me. He was all skin and bones, so I carried him back to my boyfriend's car and we took him to my house. I had a spare room since my former roommate and her cat had moved out the week before. I had been trying to decide whether to get a kitty companion when we saw this kitty at the track. He went to the vet later that morning. I found out that he has hyperthyroidism and he's at least ten years old. I give him pills twice per day. He has been my medical mystery cat. Shortly after I brought him home, he developed an abscess on his side. The antibiotics gave him diarrhea which lasted for a few weeks (yuck!). None of the treatments for the diarrhea helped, and it finally stopped on its own.
Now he has another abscess, this time on his head. It is just above his right eye. He has had this abscess for six weeks, been on antibiotics once, and currently has a drain in it. At the suggestion of several people on this site, my vet is going to do a culture so that we can hopefully kill this thing once and for all. Unlike Willow who almost never goes to the vet, Spot practically lives there. Since he came to live with me, two weeks have not passed without at least one trip to the vet. He is such a sweet cat that I can't help but love him. I am very lucky to have two kitties that are affectionate and caring. If only they got along with each other...
This picture was taken a few days after I first let Spot and Willow spend time together.
