my kittens booked into be spayed on the 29th january.

i know its for the best but i'm so worried about her getting it done.

at the moment shes a little bit sneezy and i'm worried shes got a cold, should i cancel the operation if shes still sneezing? i'm worried her immune system might have too much to cope with and she wont recover as quick.

also, if she is already pregnant would the vet be able to tell before operating? she came into heat for the first time a couple of weeks ago but it only lasted 2 days. am worried it ended because she got herself a boyfriend. to the extent of my knowledge she hasnt ben out unsupervised in months (she doesnt like going outside for a start) but my mum and sister are quite keen on the idea of kittens so cant guarentee they havnt been letting her out while i'm at uni. (though they swear they havnt)

my kittens mum was pregnant when she went to get spayed and they gave her a cat abortion. i dont want to sound precious about this but i really wouldnt want that to happen to my cat. would they do it without my knowledge/consent?

i'm just being a worry wart but shes my baby and i'm just a bit overprotective of her!

any advice or well wishes would be much appreciated!

When you take her in to have her spayed, let the clinic know that you think she may have gotten pregnant. (She will be pretty far along by then)The vet will palpate her before her spay. If you really want to let her have the kittens, the vet should respect that and not perform the surgery.
As far as her cold goes- I wouldn't cancel just yet. The surgery is still a while from now. If the vet doesn't feel she is healthy enough when she comes in- he should let you know.

About 21 days after she was in heat if she is pregnant her nipples will turn a bright pink. If she is pregnant, can you find homes for the kittens? Homes where you know they will take good care of them? And will you get them spayed before they go to their homes so you know you are not allowing more unwanted kittens to come into the world? Do you have the money to get a cesarian section if you cat is not able to have the kittens naturally? Do you have the money for the shots for the kittens and for their spaying? Do you have the time to bottle feed six kittens every three hours around the clock if your cat isn't able to care for them herself? If you can't answer all these questions yes, then I urge you to get her spayed this week, before you know if she is pregnant or not. Becky

This would be an even better plan!
Too many kittens out there already!

i very much doubt she is pregnant as she hasnt been allowed out and is showing no signs, just because of what happened when my friend went to get the mum cat spayed has made me a bit nervous.

if she was pregnant then i would rather keep the babies myself than have them go to unsuitable homes and would do everything in my power to ensure they went to good homes.

having seen mavericks mum and female relations giving birth to unwanted litter after unwanted litter i wouldnt want my cat to go through that.(hence why i'm getting her spayed)

and yes, rest assured that if any of those awful situations happened i would find the money and time to take care of maverick and any other kittens whether i wanted to keep them or not because it would be my responsability.

i agree, there is too many kittens out there needing home and too many older cats getting euthanised as a result.

sorry if i gave the impression that the cat was preganant, i just wanted to know what would happen if she was and whether they would tell me. am more concerned about her cold and the operation!

I am sure the vet will tell you if she is unwell enough to have the op - especially for the anaesthetic, which they won't give if the cat's airways are obstructed by cold. Good luck with it
