Bites his nails???

Yes, Comere bites his nails.

His back nails specifically. Usually in the evening as he is pathetically grooming himself (he's never been very skilled at this LOL) he will start by licking his tail, move on to the private kitty area, his stomach, then start yanking out hair on his side (which he so kindly spits out all over my bed where he's laying while he does this). He ends with sticking his foot in his mouth, turning his head sideways and biting his toe nails!

Normal? I have no idea. What do you think?

mrsd, yeah it is actually pretty funny to watch. My husband will look at him and say "he's a wack!"

byclops, sucking his paw huh? Kinda like sucking his thumb -- cute!

It's perfectly normal. Cats remove the old sheath on their front claws by scratching wood, carpets, etc., and "chew their nails" to get the sheaths off the back claws. They'd look pretty funny contorting to scratch off their back sheaths on a scratching post, wouldn't they? They're extremely agile, but there are some limits!
