Hello everyone. My name is Karel, but I use the name of my "special one" Tinker Toy. I find it helps keep me close to her.

I spent 10 years working as office manager for a vet (had to learn tech duties too) and now teach vocational skills to the mentally handicapped. My vet job is where I first was found by a one-hour-old kitten, so I learned about cat care the hard way. Then came nine years of devotion to each other. Where ever I went Toy would go.

Last November my baby left for the Rainbow Bridge and I was left with a gaping hole in my heart - a hideous, horrible pain that left me wanting to go join her. Instead, I found myself at the local shelter asking the attendant if she had a cat kind of like me. Older, lonely, and all alone. She said that she did and led me to the last cage. Inside was a grey/black tabby, DLH, 8 to 9 yrs old, that was scheduled to be euthanized the following Tuesday. We've been palls ever since.

Nothing will ever replace my Tinker Toy, but Runner understands and we cry together - for Toy and for the owner Runner lost. So, we have joined a few cat communities. I have found that cat lovers DO understand the pain of loss and will never tell you "well, it was just an animal". We also love to look at the pictures and read the funny stories cat lovers tell. And I have read some beauts here!

Thank you for reading this and, if you get a chance, please go to http://www.muttcats.com/tinkertoy.htm and read Tinker Toy, Her Story. Her photos are at http://comunity.webshots.com/user/karel26 and are really beautiful. I'll have some posted here soon.

Hope to 'talk' to all of you soon.
Karel

Oh Karel, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your baby....I feel your pain. I tried to go look at the pictures, but it kept saying the page couldn't be displayed when I clicked on it. I am glad you have joined us!

You did a wonderful job sharing your story about your life with Tinker. I cried just reading it. These guys become like children and not just pets. You two really had something special. Hope to hear more stories!!

Karel, I really am not stalking you. I just follow the links on my server logs to see where the visitors to MuttCats are coming from and I always find you on the other end.

Just wanted to let you know that I wasn't intentionally following you around the web and thank you for being such a strong supporter of the site. Thanks also for helping me find all these other great cat sites.

What a moving story! I'm so sorry for your loss. It's only natural to mourn the loss of a loved one. I pity people who can't become attached to their pets. Toy sounds like quite
a character and no other cat can ever be quite like her.

I'm glad that Runner keeps you company and with time I'm sure you two will get even closer.

Thank you for joining the forum and sharing your story with us.

Oops, all this emotionality made me forget to give a warm welcome to Andrea as well!
