My kitties have only ever eaten dry catfood, but after doing some reading, here and elsewhere, I've decided to start supplementing them with wet catfood - I bought some today, but the problem is, I'm not sure how much to give them - the tin only gives instructions for if the cats are exclusively eating wet food. My cats free feed on dry, and they usually eat about 1/2 a cup each of dry food a day, sometimes a bit more - how much wet food should I give them? Thanks in advance!

My cats also free feed on dry (except Spyder, he won't touch the stuff
) I give them each a half a can in the morning and a half a can at night and it works out fine for them.

Hi Kylie,
The tin should also note if it's feeding recomendations are by the animal's wt. or it's age...if it's by weight, and you are using this just to supplement for example, half of their diet (and are decreasing their dry food by half), you'd just feed half what is recommended based on their wt. I.e. a 6 lb. kitty if it says to feed 1 can per 3 lbs., but you are feeding dry as well, you'd cut the amount of dry, and give a single can per cat, split into am and pm feedings (would be how I'd do it).

If you just want to give them a bit of a boost, but not to have wet food equal half their diet, I'd just split a 3 oz. can (or 1/2 of a 6 oz. can) between them once a day.

So...it depends on the size tin (3 oz. or 6 oz or there are 14 oz. cans for some brands) and the amount of their diet you wish to have be canned, and the feeding guidelines (hopefully based on weight).

Hope that's not confusing

I feed mostly dry but feed my guys 1/4 of a can of wet in the morning and another at night. It's the perfect amount because if I put more than that they will waste it and it will dry up.

I was wondering about wet food and voilÃ:censor:, here is the answer. Bijou and Mika are both on free feed dry food - she on kitten and Bijou on adult and we are giving them 1/2 can of wet food each night more for a treat than anything else. I thought perhaps I was being mean by not feeding him more wet food but it seems as though he's quite happy with the dry and enjoys the wet as a treat. He rarely eats the whole 1/2 can at one sitting (small cans too) so I'm assuming I'm not a mean mommy.

BTW, those look like two beautiful but spoiled boys you have there! They are gorgeous.

I just wondered if you needed to put more toes on Zoey's siggie!

LOL.. yeah I should have a pic of her showing all her toes.
I just really love the pic!

I think I feed the perfect amount of wet actually. And I think 1/2 a can is a lot to be considered just a treat. I would consider a tablespoon or so a treat. I know that cats need a lot of water to stay healthy so I add a little water to their wet food as well. I wouldnt want to feed all dry because they need the water intake.
