This December, Humane Ohio will reach a milestone when the 2,000th cat is fixed at an Operation FELIX (Feline Education and Love Instead of Extermination) clinic! The 2,000th cat will most likely be spayed or neutered at the clinic on either December 20th or 27th.

Until recently, Operation FELIX clinics have been held on a monthly basis at Stautzenberger College. At each clinic, 60 to 75 cats were fixed! Since this summer, the Operation FELIX clinics have been held WEEKLY where an average of 30 cats are fixed each time! This allows us to sterilize even more cats and our goal for 2005 is to fix 2,000 cats in one year! Volunteers make this program possible, including over 34 different vets representing 19 vet clinics, who donate their time.

This program makes the community a better place to live for both people and animals. Operation FELIX helps those who love cats and those who don't by humanely reducing the pet overpopulation.

Humane Ohio is working with area humane organizations to find solutions to reduce pet overpopulation in the Toledo area. Humane Ohio coordinates Operation FELIX, a free spay/neuter program for stray cats and cats belonging to low-income families. Humane Ohio also runs a website, www.humaneohio.org, to offer the community information on spay/neuter and pet behavior problems, and provide links to local rescue groups, a central lost/found system and more!

Wow, this is phenomenal! 2,000 spay/neuters! If anyone has a doubt about how many homeless cats are still out there, all they have to do is read articles like this. Look at the number of ferals in just this one area...
