I'm having terrible time with Buzzy! My 2 year old short hair started scooting on the carpet about one month ago. He is 15 pounds and should weigh about 12, so he is on OW vet diet. He used to just scoot after defacating. Last week he started constantly licking his anal area. the other day he started leaking poop before going to the bathroom, and is scooting all the time before and after. The vet has tested him for parasites, which is negative, and the anal sac glands are normal. Last night she gave him a pill just in case of tapeworm, and did a rectal exam - which was normal. Last night he was in definite pain after we got home from the vet, but seemed to be better this morning. He scooted about 4 times this morning but only urintated a little in the litter box. Can anyone help us?

Sometimes the anal sacs can become infected and/or inflammed which will cause discomfort. We sometimes infuse an anti-inflammatory cream into inflamed anal sacs to take the itch out, and give antibiotics for any infection. FYI, they will always scoot a little more right after having the sacs expressed because expressing them can cause a little irritation. What is the brand of diet you are feeding? Is it a high fibre diet? Extra fibre usually helps in these cases.

Hi: The vet gave me an anti-inflammatory cream to wipe on his behind twice a day. Also I have a anti-biotic pill with anti-inflammatory agent I give him each night. The vet is gave me a high fiber over-wieght management food we are gradually changing to. By tonight he will be totally on the new food. Last night when I got home from work, he had not scooted but his rear was messy. I took a warm soapy washcloth and cleaned him. I fed him and he went to the litterbox soon after eating. He urinated and deficated in the box and there was no straining. He scooted twice after the litter box. This morning no scooting and his rear was clean, but he did not go to bathroom at all. Also, the vet keeps saying his anal sacs are normal. I've been told the pain he had the other night could have been caused by the tapeworm pill. Does it sometimes cause cramping?
