I was so glad to find such a site with such great info and people. I am hoping that along the way I can learn a lot from all of you, as I am very new to being an owner of a gorgeous little male kitten. (are boys gorgeous?) My BF adopted the cat for me as an early C'mas gift-something I had wanted for sooooo long. The kitten is gray and white, and as mentioned, a male. When I asked the women who we adopted the kitten from which breed this cat was, she said it was just a gray and white shorthaired cat and thats what it is known as. This didnt seem to right to me, but we are making a trip to the vet within the next week and I am hoping to get some insight on this.
I still have yet to name the kitten and I am hoping you guys could help. I am not that big on naming it things like "pumpkin," or "cuddles", I was thinking more along the lines of a unique name- if you have any suggestions, please feel free to share!
Last nite was kitten's first nite with me, and she was very playful. Usually I get a good 7 hours of sleep...not last nite. I think my boyfriend and I got a total of an hour and a half sleep. I would put kitty on my bed and then he would jump down immediately. As soon as he was down, he would meoooow until I picked him up--this went on for hours. Is this typical for a young kitten who was just plucked away from his family? I am hoping the constant meowing will subside, as I live in an apartment and do not want to upset neighbors.
I am trying to gather as much info as I can. It is now my job to be a wonderful parent to this kitten. Any tips, pointers or suggestions that you may have would be so welcomed

Thank you guys! I look forward to being a part of these forums!

Hi and welcome to TCS!!! Congrats on your new addition, hope that you can post some pictures soon! We love pictures! As for the nighttimes situation, if you need more sleep you could close your bedroom door and just let him have free roam of the rest of the place. But yes, my sara, since i got her and even now sometimes, when it is bedtime, she thinks it is playtime...she will spaz out and run as hard as she can up and down hallways and across the bed, if you have a squirt bottle, that is very good at calming sara down, it might work for you, it is also a great for everyday stuff like getting them off the table or something.
As for names, i dont know, i am not good at naming either, it took us 2 weeks to decide on sara's name... we called her all kinds of things, just till we got a feel for what sounded right, if we called her a name and it didnt sound right we moved onto something else<~~maybe thats a weird way to do it, but it worked for us.... there are lots of greats sites though if you go to google and put in cat names there are lots of websites with lots of good names. Good luck!!!

Hi and welcome... and congrats on getting a kitten!
I can understand wanting to come up with a unique name for your kitten... maybe if you post some pictures, or narrow it down to a theme (Disney movie, Christmas-time, arist name?) we could help!

I'm sorry that I can't help regarding why your kitten wouldn't let you sleep - the first night I had my kitten she kept me up in a different way - by running all over the room and trying to bite our feet! Maybe he's just gotten attached to you already?

Glad to have you here!

Welcome to TCS, and I'm glad you got a kitten for your Christmas gift! There is a thread here that has a lot of kitty names on it, and while you're thinking of names, how about some pictures of the wee one?

YAY!!!!
a new TCS kitten

WELCOME TO TCS TO YOU & THE LITTLE FELLA

yes its quite normal for the kitten to meow the first few nights - he has just gone through a huge change - away from his littermates & Mum and into a new enviroment - it will settle down!! you could also give him a little bit of food just before sleep time so his tummy is full and ready to sleep - often that can help - but it sounds to me that he is just exploring and a bit unsure what is going on

CONGRATS on the new addition
we just love new kittens here

The link Cindy gave should help out some with the names - if not I am sure you will find the perfect name for his personality over time. My Cedar wasnt named for almost a week as we couldnt find the perfect name

welcome again from me & my boys

Hello, Kristine & welcome to you and your little kitten. Babies can be so much fun, but also a big handful. I'm glad you've found your way to this site. It is so full of good tips and information. Good luck with naming your little boy. The boy names I've always been partial to are Simon, Simeon & Cooper.

you guys are seriously amazing. I am an avid forum browser- i am a huge dave matthews fan and spend a lot of time (perhaps too much?) in forums designed for that interest. Often times you will come across jerks and people who just want to argue. Let me just say, I love it here, and I especially lovvvvvve the welcome you all gave to me. It makes me feel that although I am very inexperienced with animals, I will be able to get a lot of insight from you guys.
Last nite was a lot better- kitty slept ALL nite (well, until 5am, but I really cant complain, at least I was able to catch a good 7 hour sleep!) This morning as I was getting ready for work, he sat there and watched me in admiration. It was so adorable. I am so excited and happy to have this new addition here. And I can't get over how well he is potty-trained. My dog still isnt perfectly potty trained and she's 11 years old!
Anyway, thanks again for the welcome. I appreciate all the support
