Anyone ever had one of these installed? My husband and I are thinking about getting one - but know next to nothing about them.

In the 6 months that we have lived here the power has gone out a few times, the first for 3 days
- this was our first week in the house - we quickly learned that with well water - no electricity meant no water. Recently the longest it has been out is for a few hours - but with the snow we are getting - we are worried about losing electricity and heat. Not only is my husband a basket case without electricity, and I *HAVE* to be able to flush a toilet (not a camper here!) we have 11 tropical birds to think about. While we can put them all into the room with the fireplace for a short amount of time - the fumes coming from burning wood are not good for them - and face it - with 11 birds, 3 cats and two humans - just how comfy is it going to be in the room with the fireplace??

I have a diesel powered generator. When I bought it, installment was included in the price. However, after it was installed, I rechecked with an independent electrician for safety.

There's no manual backup for the pump? Since you're living in Ohio I would suggest tranferring over to natural gas for your heat and cooking, etc., and get a manual backup on the well. That way it won't be as big a deal if the electricity goes out. You'll also find that gas is cheaper.

We have natrual gas for the house - just no "manual backup" for the well. Which is why were are thinking about natural gas generator. Didn't know there was such a thing as "manual backup" - is that a generator or another part of the well that you can add on?
