Snowball loves any kind of chip, and anything else that is salty like crackers. I have noticed that he will partially eat these foods, but he seems to be mainly interested in licking the salt off. Why would a cat that is fed a premium quality cat food that is purchased from the vet seem to crave salt?????????

P.S. Snowball is on a strict diet of k/d

I don't know, it's a good question! Perhaps Dr Doolittle will comment.

It's not unusual for cats to like the taste of salt. Som vets actuarally recommend putting some salt in the food for cats with poor apetite or salt in the water if its a poor drinker.

Salt isn't healthy for them though, but the cats doesn't have to be sick because it likes salt, it's quite common as I've understood it. I would keep the cat away from salty food.

I think they just like the taste of it, and that it doesn't have to be beause of any nutritional deficiencies. Most cats prefer tuna packed for humans rather than for cats because it's saltier.
